Chapter 30

Red POV

I heard shouts and commands, but I was too weak to move. I couldn’t even lift my eyes; I was numb, and my ears were ringing. But my heart was in pieces. I wanted to cry; I wanted to scream, and I wanted to curse my cruel fate.

“Put her on the bed, one, two, three!” I heard shouts, but I couldn’t move. I couldn’t feel anything.

“We are losing her!” they yelled. What was happening? Why is there so much commotion? Why am I just seeing white? Why is my heart throbbing?

“Estelle,” I heard an Aurelian voice. Why is he crying? What happened to him? I wanted to scream his name, tell him I was okay, and clean his tears, but I was trapped in my own mind.

“I’m sorry,” he cried. Sorry? Why is he sorry? What happened? I was disturbed, but I couldn’t talk. My heart was talking, but my lips were sealed.

“Bring the defibrillator!” I heard, and I wondered. Defibrillator? Why? My ears rang loudly, and I suddenly felt weak. I fell through an abyss, my eyes closing shut.
