Chapter 40

As the sun began to rise, Daryl slowly opened his eyes and rolled over to check his alarm clock. He had a long day of work ahead of him and the thought of having to sit in his plain office cubicle for hours was not a very exciting prospect. Nevertheless, Daryl knew he had to get up and get ready for the day.

With a groan, he dragged himself out of bed and headed toward the bathroom. He splashed some water on his face and got dressed in his usual work attire; a simple pair of slacks and a button-up shirt. After combing his hair and brushing his teeth, he went into his home office to grab the files he would need for the day.

As he secured the important-looking documents in a sleek black briefcase, he almost felt a slight sense of importance. It didn’t last long though, as he reminded himself that he was just a regular employee on his way to work.
