“ Lorna.” Now the voice was bold and clear to the ear. He was standing right behind her.
“ Turn to me.” She turned. He smiled broadly, happy to see her again.
“ You came. “ She glared around the unknown environment, then at the figure who was actually smiling broadly at her. She was now in total control of herself.
“ How did I get here?” She asked.
“ I called you, and you answered. “ She frowned.
“ You asshole. Are you fu*king tampering with my head? “
“ I didn’t do anything, I just called you and you answered my call. Isn’t that surprising? “
“ What do you want from me? Why bother my life? “ She asked in a harsh tone.
“As I promised you last night, I told you I was gonna show you to a place. I think this is the right time to do so.”
“ What has gone over you? Do you ever reason before you do things in this your life? How on earth do you expect me to go to who-knows-where with you when I don’t even know who or what the fu*k you are.”
“ I don’t think any of those are necessary for now.”
“ Seriously?” She rolls her eyes.
“ I’m going home.” She turns to leave.
“ I’ll be waiting for you.”
“ Great, cos you aren’t gonna see me here again.” She didn’t stop walking.
After walking for what took like minutes, she couldn’t find her way back home. She stopped walking, looking around the environment.
“ I hate you.” She cursed, returning back to him.
“ You’re back? So soon?”
“ Don’t fu*king act so surprised, okay? What’s this place?”
“ I don’t know, I just felt like meeting you here is the right place.” She scoffs, moving her head to both sides.
“You’re insane.”
“ So, are you coming with me or not?”
“ Definitely not coming.” She insisted. He rolls his eyes.
“ Can you for once stop acting stubborn?”
“ And can you for once stop killing?” She yanked back. He threw her a hard gaze, she didn’t seem to mind.
“ And besides you said it yourself, you love it when people make their choices. Well, I have made mine already, I am not going anywhere with you.” She stood her ground.
“ Well I have changed my mind, you are coming with me.” He grabs her by the wrist, and she pulls it off.
“ Where the hell do you think you are taking me to? Your place is in hell… alone. And if you do cherish your life then you better go find someone of your type.”
“ I’m gonna pretend like I didn’t hear that.” She stopped talking, mouthing her lips but not a single word came out of it.
“ What do you want from me?” A tear dropped out of her eyes.
“You should know by now my only purpose of taking you isn’t because I felt I should.”
“ Then why are you here? Why do you want me? Of all people, why does it have to be me? “
“ For so long I have searched for the one to call my own. I’ve searched through mountains and caves, hoping I would one day wake up to see her by my side. And now I have found her, there is no other reason why I have to search for her. You asked me why it has to be you, that’s because. . . You are mine. My mate.”
**
Days passed painfully slow, leaving Lorna in total breakdown and loneliness. Since the night in the woods, the very night he called her his mate, things unexpectedly changed in her life. And since that very night, she’s been wanting to see him again. Having felt his warmth, his presence, the urge to have him around her grew.
And she doesn’t know why, but the feeling keeps growing every second. That passion and want for him, that desire for pleasure and satisfaction boiled in her inside. She was fighting it, and it was growing stronger and stronger. She could feel the tingle in her even without him being beside her.
What has he done to her? Why all these sudden feelings in her? What’s going on?
Yes, she needs him beside her but this was just beyond her expectations. This was more than she thought. Like her body and soul weren’t in total control of themselves. What’s happening? What’s going on with her?
**
It’s close to a week now since Lorna last saw him. She’s been asking questions about creatures like him, and just two days ago she learnt he was not a wolf but a lycanthrope. No wonder he made a statement on the first night they met, “I ain’t a wolf.” Lorna also went ahead making research about how Lycans communicate with their mates, and she’s been trying the mind-link method since the day of her discovery.
“ Urgh, fu*king answer me. “ She opened her eyes.
“ Guess that’s only for the wolves.” She sighed in defeat.
“ I can hear you. “ Said a deep familiar voice from behind. She stiffened under his voice.
“ You called me.” She slowly turned to him, she wasn’t dreaming, was she?
She didn’t want to express how happy she was to see him, and how successful mind-linking to him actually worked as well.
“ How was that possible?” She asked.
“ I almost thought only wolves could do that.”
“ You just did. You called me. “ She darted her eyes to the door, it wasn’t opened.
And to the window, it was likewise not opened. How then did he get in? Maybe, it’s time she stops doubting his abilities.
“ I didn’t mean to bother you. Honestly, I was only trying to figure out how the mind-link stuff works. “ She apologized. He felt it wasn’t necessary but since she was sincere at the words, he nodded in agreement.
“ It’s okay. And besides, you aren’t disturbing me.” Unlike the other times, she would quickly walk him out but she did seem to notice a lot of things in her life had automatically changed without her consent.
She wanted someone to stay with her. She wanted him to stay, and have a little or more chat with him. Work on her feelings and check if she was actually ready for reality. She didn’t realize how long they have been staring at each other. He reached out, his hand barely touching her face. He paused, waiting for a reaction. When he didn’t see any, he reached out with both hands and held her face.
“ Do you… still feel scared of me?” He asked.
“ If I do, I wouldn’t have thought of calling you. “ She replied, sincerely. He takes his hands off her face, walking a few steps away from her.
“ I still have a lot to learn, a lot to work on. I don’t think I am ready for you, I am not yet the perfect guy you hope for. “ He said, a hint of sadness sounding in his voice.
“ I have never been in love with anyone, the journey is a lot tougher than I expected. I will have to work on myself first. “
“ No one is perfect, not even I. We all have so much to learn about the life, about love but that hasn’t stopped us from being what we are and doing what we want. And besides, I wasn’t complaining. “ He looks at her again.
“ Why? After all these I did, all those lives I took away, the bloodshed, yet you accepted me. Even though you just barely know who I am.” She walks close to him and shyly places her hand on one cheek.
“ At first, you came to me in the middle of the night. You spoke to me and you told me I was your mate. I was scared, I didn’t want to accept fate because it wasn’t what I hoped for. But then, I realized that no matter what, I can never change what destiny holds for us. I know, I am still working on my feelings for you but… I don’t hate you anymore. I just want you to be the good man I wish for. I want you to be happy without thinking of who’s next to kill.” “ I don’t think I can find happiness. “ He said coldly.
“ Don’t… say that. “
“ I have to. “ He walks away. Lorna sighed.
“ I have to. You don’t deserve me.”
“ I do.” She didn’t know when it slipped out of her lips. He looks at her, taking it off almost immediately.
“ I have to go.”
“ Wait.” He stops.
“ Please, don’t. At least not yet. “
“ I killed, okay! I killed those people because I was foolish and stupid and I thought I was gonna have what I wanted. Every single night I close my eyes, I can’t help but feel tormented. Those people, their screams are like they are all in my head. And I can’t sleep because they are up here. “ He points at his head.
“ I already promised myself I would do whatever it takes to see you smile, I wouldn’t want to be the reason for your sadness. “
“ There is time for everything. A time to be happy, and a time to be sad. Whatever makes you happy will make me happy, whatever makes you sad, likewise will make me sad.” She walks to his front.
“ You need to stop blaming yourself for your mistakes, the past is gone, those people are gone and there is nothing you can do about it. All I want is to love and to be loved. But for so many questions I can’t answer, I find myself accepting every bit of you. “ Touches his cheek again.
“ Let me help you. “ She pulls him into her embrace,
“Everything is gonna be alright. I promise.”
“ We’ll figure out a way to make it up to each other.” She breaks the hug.
Their stare was like an eternity as no one wanted to look away. He reached out and casually tucked out a strand of her hair behind her ear, and without meaning to, she sucked in a breath, leaning into his touch.
His brow cleared, and his eyes turned to a honeyed fire as they drifted down to her lips. It was like her body was this traitor, acting without her brain’s permission. Especially considering what you were thinking earlier, that annoying voice tries to interject.
Are you seriously going to let hormones get the best of you when there are important things to consider? But when Jeff deeps his head down and pressed his lips to hers, his rough stubble scratching against her chin in the most delicious way, her brain shut up entirely. His hands wrapped around her waist, clinching her to him.
At first, she felt scared, she didn’t want to return the kiss back. He noticed this, making a pause. Then she slightly opened her mouth, and he kissed her lower lip. She kissed him back. She did kiss him back. And she puts her hands in his hair, feeling the silken strands between her fingers.
And if heartbeat could be measured, Lorna’s own was gonna blow up the metre. Today was a day when was gonna be marked. The very day she would be going to the place he had promised to show her.Her mother was staying at home, so she couldn’t leave without informing her. She contemplated how she was going to explain it all to her mother. She thought of keeping it a secret and sneaking out of the house, but Ariana and Jide keeps convincing her to tell her mother.“ Mom, there’s something I wanna talk to you about. I know it’s gonna sound pretty weird and when I say weird, I meant weird-weird.”“ Come on, Liss, you know I do love weird things.” She said.“ Really?” She asked to be sure.“ You serious about that? Cos I don’t want you freaking out when I tell you this.”“ Don’t worry, I can cope with it.”“ Well, first of all, I wanna tell you that I ain’t the same again.” She started.“ A lot has happened to me in the past few days now and, I know I haven’t been a good daughter because I k
“Don't hide from us, little pup. Don't you want to play with the wolves?Beta Valeriu's voice rings around me as I hide under the stairs of the empty house, avoiding some cobwebs that get caught in my long blond hair. Out of breath, I sink to the floor and wrap my arms around my legs, trying not to inhale the thick odor of damp and dust. Closing my eyes, I pray to the moon goddess that they get bored of chasing me, but I know. No goddess will save my ass tonight. Not when I'm being hunted by real wolves.I made a mistake. A big mistake. I went to a pack party, like all my other classmates, at the beta's house to celebrate the end of school and, personally, my eighteenth birthday. For some small reason I thought it might be okay for one night. Be like them. Not just another one of the orphaned children the pack keeps alive because of laws created by a goddess no one has seen in hundreds of years. I should have known betas-in-training would get drunk and decide that chasing me down for
- Wake up! You have a book on your face. I blink my eyes open, see nothing but blurry lines until I lift the book I've been reading from my face and rub my nose. Damn, I must have fallen asleep reading it again. I close the human-written romance book about demons in a school and turn my gaze to where my foster brother is holding the door open. Jesper Perdita has long, dark brown hair that falls around his face and shoulders, his clothes are all a little too big and torn in places, they are all hand-me-downs. But he smiles every damn day, and for that alone, I love him. Eight years old, he acts like he's the same age as me, thanks to losing his family a year ago and having no other relatives to take him in. I don't care that we're not blood related, somehow I'll always be there for him, because he didn't have a childhood like I didn't. We are orphaned children in a pack that hates our existence and they make sure we know it.The fact that they keep him alive is only because one day he
Flashing multicolored lights flash through my eyes as I wake up with my head resting on Daniel's broad shoulder, his arm around my waist, it's so unexpected that I jump up, nearly bumping my head into his chin. He moves super-fast, with the reflexes his wolf provides, and I narrowly miss my head. I slide away from Daniel's arm as he clears his throat, sitting up straight in his seat and running a hand through his thick hair. Rather than talk about the uncomfortable moment, I turn and look out the window, which has ice trapped around the edges, to see that we're driving up the hillside overlooking the glittering sea between Wales and Ireland. I came to this place only once when I was fifteen on a school trip to see where the mating ceremony takes place and what we should expect from the future. If anywhere in this world made me believe in magic, this was it. A place that has been in my dreams for many years. For most wolves, this is where they will meet their wolves and begin their new
I trip over a small boulder, falling onto the path and hissing as I cut my hand. I look up as Lacey looks back, and then she laughs, knocking me to my knees as she continues past the line. Tears fill my eyes, but I refuse to let them fall, I stand up, seeing that the dress is now dirty with sand and mud, I lift my hand to see blood dripping from a large cut, running from the palm to the wrist. Sighing, I close my hand and let the blood drip onto the wet sand, as I know I need to continue down this path.It feels like forever when I reach the beach and look up to see Lacey waiting behind three other classmates, just as one of them enters the water. Four before my fate was decided. I'm tempted to take my shoes off and enjoy the feel of the cool sand under my bare feet, but I stick with my boots. I don't want to lose them. I walk along the beach, feeling so many eyes watching and judging me. I refuse to look at the men from the other side, knowing the new alpha will be there, and seeing
“That you're monsters,” I say, remembering well how he said he might feel if he lied. Her lips curve into a dazzling smile.“Lies are so easy to tell for those who live in fear, and your alpha lied, Mairin. We were never the monsters, but our lives are very different from where you came from. Here we don't have destined partners, we just mate with who we fall in love with. Wolves are free to date, explore, do whatever they want, and we accept new wolves into the pack only if they are rejected or lost. We respect loyalty, and we welcome those who are nothing to others.— Are there other rejected partners? I ask.His smile disappears.“I meet more than one wolf a week on this beach. All rejected and thrown overboard because their partner couldn't convince the wolf to kill them.“I had no idea,” I whisper.“To answer your question,” Henderson says, moving me a little in his arms, “I don't live here, but I'm called to the lighthouse to check on everyone who arrives. If you had lied to me
RAGNAR“She doesn't remember us.Henderson's statement hangs in the air, giving voice to our thoughts with great speed. Very sore. But it's been aching from the second Henderson found her, from the second she looked at us like we were strangers and didn't grow up together. Mairin is so different from the last time I saw her, when she was almost twelve and my biggest crush since I realized girls were interesting. It was the same for all of us... until she disappeared. And then we all realized that we had everything with her, and without her, we were nothing. And she doesn't remember. In my mind, I see her on the sofa by the lighthouse, wearing a silk dress that isn't torn, stained with her blood and soaked from the sea. Blood and salt water couldn't hide her scent from me, nor how broken she was could hide how beautiful she was. Her long blonde hair, her bright green eyes that reminded me of the dark green trees in our old house, and her long legs caught my attention right away. She is
The sweet, wolf woman doesn't quite match the unfriendly way she just called me a dog, and I'm a little taken aback. She has curly red hair that is in two braids that fall down to her belly with small wolf barrettes tying them together. She's wearing a short black top, black leather pants that are very tight, and she really has a sweet face. On his back are two daggers, but I can only see the sharp points on either side of his head. The woman arches an eyebrow at me, her green eyes showing me that she's not the least bit sweet. This is exactly why I was taught not to judge a book by its cover.“Mai, this is Seraphim Fall, our lead beta wolf, and I'd say she's not that rude, but she is,” Ragnar introduces us.“What kind of name is Mai?” she asks, tilting her head to the side and placing her hands on her hips. "Actually, who is she and why is she here?""Since when do I have to tell you anything?"“Since the fact none of you could live without me, that's why,” she counters with a smile
