I braced myself and opened the door. I nearly jumped out of my skin, looking into the bathroom with eyes wide open and in utter surprise. I woke up to the beeping of my phone. I turned my head from one side to another while blocking my ears with my hands, but the beeping wouldn't stop. I removed my hands from my ears and placed my hand on the other side of the bed, but it was empty. I jerked my head off the pillow and looked to the other side of the bed.
