The next time Elena woke up, it wasn’t to the sound of Richard or her alarm. It was the familiar feeling of being watched that made goosebumps rise all over her body. Snapping her eyes open, she stared at the ceiling, wondering what this feeling rising in her chest was. She placed a hand on her stomach, over her heart, and sighed.

“Morning, darling.”

Elena almost jumped out of her skin, sitting up so fast that her head spun badly, making everything around her tremble. It didn’t help that her head hurt so much she could barely keep her eyes open.

“Drunk and hungover. Can you be any more responsible?”

“What are you doing here?” She held her head with one hand, bracing herself for the upcoming ache. There was no doubt in her mind that the voice belonged to none other than Simon Walsh. But that was what confused her. Hadn’t she been with Richard? She looked around, unable to find him. “Where’s Richard?”
