Maliyah
After my dance with Luca, he kisses my hand before returning to his DJ table. I am so confused by my feelings right now. I wander around ensuring all is going well and that the punch bowl hasn’t been spiked. I look around the room and realize my parents are not here either. I try to mind link them but they have a wall up so I assume they must be pretty busy to miss the dance.
I tried mind linking Aspen several times as well, but I get nothing as if he is asleep. I swear if he slept through this I’ll kick his ass. He promised he’d be here and he’s never broken a promise. I push those thoughts to the back of my mind as midnight is closing in and one of our teachers grabs the microphone to announce the homecoming queen and king.
“What’s wrong Maliyah? Where’s Aspen,” asks Olivia as she is fanning herself.

AspenI wake with a groan trying to decipher what had happened last night. When I open my eyes I realize I am still home meaning I never made it to the dance last night. I sit up too fast and clutch my stomach in pain. “Easy there Prince Aspen,” says our doctor, Lily.“What happened?”“You don’t remember?”“No, I do not. I remember working late and then decided to take a walk in my mother’s garden. After that nothing. Where is Maliyah, I need to see her.”“First things first, let me check that wound of yours. I may have great healing abilities but you were struck with an arrow laced with poison. You are lucky to be alive.”“I’m fine, I need to get to Maliyah. If they attacked me they must be after her.”“Prince Aspen, there is something you should know.”“What?”“Maliyah is in critical condition in the hospital. She has yet to wake up.”At those words I teleport to the Palmetto pack house without letting Lily check my bandages. I’ll have Dr. Smith check mine. “Derek, what happened?”
Maliyah I was in the hospital for three days before they finally released me. Thankfully Terra was able to heal me and I feel good as new except she has exhausted herself and won’t be able to shift for a while. I am not sure how long that is, but it has made Aspen extremely paranoid. He hasn’t left my side all week, including coming to school and my cheer practices. However, this morning he had a meeting back home so I finally get a chance to breathe a bit. The twins and I dress in our cheer uniforms and prepare to head down stairs when we are stopped by a bouquet of black dahlias at the front door. “Why would Aspen send you black dahlias,” asks Olivia. “Yeah, aren’t they like a symbol of betrayal,” says Oliver. “Umm…I’m not sure. Maybe he doesn’t know what they mean and just thinks they’re pretty?” I set the flowers on the table after tos
Maliyah“Hey dad,” I say with a smile as I enter the room.“Shut the door,” he says making me worry just how much trouble I am inAs soon as I shut the door he smiles wide.“The room is sound proof, but it had to seem like you were in trouble.”“You had me a bit worried there for a second, I did not throw a single punch.”“I know you didn’t and I am proud of you for holding back like you did.”“I hear a ‘but’ coming.”“Your mother isn’t too happy the girl got hurt, even if she did it to herself.”“I cannot be responsible for other’s actions. She could trip tomorrow and it wouldn’t be my fault.”“That’s true. Your mother is just worried because we promised the humans on the council that their kids would be safe with the shift
MaliyahI am sure our side of the stands are louder than our opponents. We are winning twenty to twelve. We try to yell louder the crowd so we can be heard, but I am not sure that is possible.“G-O! Let’s go wolves! G-O! Let’s go!”The whistle blows indicating it’s half time. We cheer the boys as they head to the locker room while we make our way to center field. we drop our pom poms and stand in position. The music begins blaring over the speakers and we begin dancing.Girls are thrown into the air and land safely in the base’s arms. I smile as I see Aspen in the crowd as I do a double back hand spring. The sound of the music fades out as we pose from our last move. The crowd cheers as we make our way to the sideline. The twins and I head to grab some snacks.“Amazing performance,” says Aspen as he wraps his arms around me.“I’m so g
Aspen The whole crowd ducks to the ground as we hear gun shots ring into the night. The humans scramble, screaming as they shove each other to find cover. Coven kids do their best to use spells to block the bullets while the wolves help the humans escape. I scan the crowd to find Maliyah but she is no where in sight. Davina has Aiden in her arms with Accalia and Thierry clinging to her. “Aspen have you seen Maliyah,” says Davina. “No I haven’t, I’ve been looking.” “Find my daughter please. I have to get these kids out of here.” I scan the crowd again, taking my time so I don’t miss her. She should be easy to spot with her silver hair. Davina disappears with her younger children while Derek stays with me to keep looking for Maliyah. I finally catch a glimpse of her silver hair but my heart sinks. “Maliyah,” I yell out as I see her g
MaliyahThis is really starting to get old. My shoulder feels stiff and I groan as my body protests my movements. I open and eye and thankfully the lights are off, meaning it’s the middle of the night. I look around and see Luca and Chris standing guard at the door, but no Aspen.‘Terra?’‘We’ll be fine. Thankfully the silver bullet was removed.’‘Are you okay?’‘A bit drained, but I’ll be fine as well. You may have been asleep for about a week though, I needed to build up my strength.’‘A week?’‘On the bright side, we can shift again.’Well that is a plus. I am glad Terra has fully healed that we can shift again.“Maliyah, you’re awake,” says Luca as he comes into the room, followed by Chris.&ld
MaliyahI wake up the next day feeling drained. I did not sleep well after learning Kira died. Whoever attacked the pack I am sure was after me and that makes me feel even worse. It feels as if it’s my fault she died. I continue to lay in bed, staring at my sister’s picture as the sun peaks through my curtains. I’ve heard several people come knock on my door all day but I don’t answer.“Maliyah?”“Luca?”“Yeah it’s me, can I come in?”“I guess.”Luca opens the door with a smile on his face while I just continue to stare at the picture. He quietly closes the door and doesn’t turn on the light which I am grateful for. He walks over to my bed and sits at the foot of it.“It’s almost three in the afternoon and you haven’t come out of your room. Are you alright?”I don’t answer him and I feel the bed move as he lays acro
MaliyahWe arrive at the conference room and I realize that everyone has arrived in person. Alpha Brian of the West Coast bear Pack is here with his mate Neera and Interim Alpha Henri is here with his mate Sarah. They’re raising the previous Alpha’s son when he and his mate Camille died from the attack on their flock in France. Little Andre should be about six by now. Alpha Ghalen is also here with his sister Amara. It looks like Ghalen has yet to find his mate. Lastly, Dimitri is also here to represent the coven and elder Katla is here representing the dragons.Everyone gives me sad smiles, which is annoying, but I am glad they are not asking me how I am doing. I have been getting that question a lot lately and I am tired of answering it. I let Aspen lead me to two empty seats next to my parents just as the meeting is set to begin.“Good afternoon everyone. Thank you for coming,&rd
