Decisions

Three days have passed, and Alpha Jackson has not decided on what to do. He had hoped that the pack was going to go to Eric when he retired but now things are different. Now things there are going to hell faster than he could catch up.

Now he had no Luna, no beta, and his son was kidnapped. He was all alone and had no idea what to do. Maria on the other hand was no better than the alpha, the pack members had not given her any peace.

She was tired, hungry, and bruised. Her lips were chipped and looked like she was going to die at any moment. Today was a Thursday and that meant she had a day to live. “Hey Sara, I am sorry for failing you.” Maria told her wolf.

The wolf chuckled weakly. “You know it’s not too late, right?” Maria was the one who chuckled this time. “We have a day to live Sara, how is that not too late? Right now, I just want to go and join my parents, maybe ask my father a few questions. Also, ask about these markings I have. They are not normal Sara.”

The wolf was quiet for a moment. “I know you have many questions, but I don’t think it’s time for us to die yet. Look at everyone in this pack, they are occupied with finding Eric, we can escape and never come back.” Maria thought about it and found it plausible.

“That could work, but we are weak, and we won’t get far before they catch us. Also, we have nowhere to go.” Sara kept quiet, she knew Maria was right, they had nowhere to go, the pack was their home and had no relatives outside of it.

“It doesn’t matter where we go as long as we get to live.” Sara told her. Maria lifted her head and looked around. She was now invisible to the pack; she was like a homeless person in the streets which no one paid attention to.

“You are right about one thing; we have now become invisible in this pack and on top of that. When we leave here, we are going to be rogues and we both know that our kind doesn’t take likely to rogues. We maybe running away from dying here only to be killed out there by other rogues if we are lucky or another pack.”

There was a lot to consider, if she was in good health then maybe she would have been able to fight the rogues off. But now she was starved and weak. Her chances of surviving against the rogues were one in a hundred.

“I think we have better chances out there than in here. We have no one here as well and they are planning on killing us anyway. So, what do we have to lose?” Maria thought about it and saw no reason to stay in the pack.

“We wait until after dark then we leave. They did well by treating us like dogs letting us stay and sleep outside. That will help us escape without them knowing.” Maria said now determined.

“And they rejected us and now we have no connection to the pack. That means no one will know when we cross the border.” Maria smiled, the first genuine smile she had in days, feeling like there was hope for her yet.

While Maria and her wolf were planning their escape. Alpha Jackson was making plans to rescue his son. He thought about giving away the pack but that would not be an honorable thing for an alpha to do. He could not give away his pack like that.

“Make sure the warriors are ready, we attack at dawn.” He told his gamma who looked like he was going to faint. “Alpha are you sure you want to attack alpha Luciano’s pack?” The gamma was afraid and had a good reason for that.

His fear of the alpha and his pack was not baseless. Alpha Luciano had a reputation and it seemed Eric was the one in the wrong. When they tracked him, his scent went over alpha Luciano’s border.

He was within his rights to hold him hostage, the gamma thought that the alpha would at least negotiate for his son’s return not launch an attack they would not win. He believed Alpha Jackson was being reckless.

“What choice do I have? The man took my son!” The alpha roared in anger, he thought the gamma would understand, it was their future alpha being held hostage by alpha Luciano. “Why don’t we negotiate with him, maybe there is something else he wants, and we can offer him.” The gamma was trying to stay calm, but it was difficult to.

He wished the beta was still there, he always knew how to get through to their alpha. “Does this note suggest that there is room for negotiations? And we know what he wants, our pack!” Alpha Jackson paced the room.

The goddess knew he did not want to face that monster Luciano but what choice did he have? He was holding his son and future alpha of the pack he wanted. He could not just give it away without a fight.

His pack still had the strongest warriors after alpha Luciano’s pack, and he believed they could hold their own. They were not a small and useless pack. They could defend themselves and the reason they had not gone against Alpha Luciano before was because of mutual respect.

At least that was what Alpha Jackson believed. They never butted heads with the alpha and when they met once. They were civil with each other, that was why he could not understand why he was doing this now.

“I understand alpha, and I will go and ready our best warriors.” The gamma told him then turned and left the room. This whole thing gave him a bad feeling, but he did not know what else to do. His alpha wanted to resolve things on the battlefield and there was nothing he could do to stop him.

Alpha Jackson continued to pace in his office, he needed someone to talk to. His beta or Luna preferably but they were both gone and now he had no one to rely on besides his gamma. He too was overworked and needed help.

He thought he was going to give Eric more responsibilities until he could appoint someone else as beta but now, he did not see the reason to as he might lose his pack in the morning. The alpha was stressed and did not know what to do.

He needed a win with alpha Luciano and that was the only way he could keep his pack. But the question remained, could he win against an alpha with a reputation like that?

While he was busy making plans for the attack in the morning. Maria was busy making her own plans to escape the pack that very night.

It was a hard and scary decision to make that could get her killed but she was making it because she felt like it was the only way to survive.

Alpha Jackson also decided to fight for his pack and son. He knew that there was a possibility that he could die, his son too, and lose the pack anyway. But he decided to fight anyway. It was his pack, and he did not want to give it away like that.

Back in alpha Luciano’s office, he and his best friend and beta of the pack were talking. “You know he wont just give you his pack, right?” Luciano, a man who never smiled not unless he was with his friend, only frowned when he heard what his beta said.

“It’s not a problem, if he decides to fight, we will be ready for him but if he is smart. He will give me his pack in the next three days. Either way, I will get what I want.” As he spoke, he was focused on the paperwork he was busy with as his beta was busy cleaning his nails with a knife.

“No matter, I will make sure the security is tight on the borders, you know just in case.” Luciano lifted his head slightly to look at his friend.

“I wouldn’t expect anything less from a beta of the pack.”  Mike chuckled sitting up straight. “Don’t start.” Luciano warned. “You don’t know what I am going to say so don’t tell me that.”

Luciano dropped the document he was holding on the desk then looked at his friend. “Were you not going to ask me or make a comment about the pack needing a Luna and that I should invest my time in finding her?” he asked with a raised eyebrow. “Okay, yes that is what I was going to say but you know we need a Luna. How are you going to sire a son to take over the pack when the time comes if you don’t have a Luna?” Luciano, who was tired of hearing the same thing from his friend every other day, decided to go to the cells.

He was going to get his frustrations out on his new prisoner. When he walked in and stood in front of Eric’s cell. He trembled in fear. This man has been torturing him nonstop for the past two days and the things he has done to him are things he had never seen being done to anyone before.

“Please, not again. You can kill me if you want but please, no more torture. I can’t take it anymore.” Eric looked nothing like himself. He had it worse than Maria and the worse part was that he could not heal because they pumped him full of wolfbane.
