Chapter 20 : Some sense of pride

"I'm doing this for the welfare of the packs," Levi states after writing a check to my father for an outrageous sum of money. It's so laughable that I almost think it's too much to be true. Evidently my father has decided to cash in on this whole divorce avoidance thing.

Dad sees the check as soon as Levi hands it to him. His eyes widen like saucers. Levi hasn't even negotiated with him, but has simply doubled the first derisory figure my father has offered him. And he did it without even stopping to think about it.

"By accepting the money you guarantee that our packs are at peace and that I can stay married to Amber for as long as she wants me," Levi says to my father in a calm voice.

"Well... I must admit, it's a hard offer to refuse," Dad comments, staring at the check.

"No. I can't let you do this," I then say, stepping in.

I take the check from my father's hands and hand it back to Levi.

"This whole thing is absurd. You don't have to buy my father's blessing," I aff
