SAVANNAH'S POV
"I'm afraid that your daughter has leukemia Mrs Andrews" As soon as the doctor relayed this shocking news, my mouth dropped and my eyes widened. "My daughter has leu...leukemia?" I struggled to speak, it was as if the air had left my lungs. The doctor's words hit me like a force. My daughter, whom I had to struggle to birth and raise alone, had a terminal illness. It felt like the ground had been pulled from beneath me. This wasn't part of the plan I had made years ago when I decided to have her. "Mrs Andrews" My precious baby, I remember the first day she came into this world, a tiny bundle of hope and dreams. I vividly recalled the long hours of labor, the excruciating pain, and the overwhelming relief when the midwife finally placed her delicate body in my arms. "Mrs Andrews, can you hear me?" I fought so much and worked so hard to settle the mounting hospital bills, taking on extra jobs just to put food on the table for my daughter despite being postpartum. Every ounce of my being was dedicated to her well-being, yet now she was struck by this cruel illness. Doubt rained on me, and I couldn't help but wonder where I had gone wrong. "Mrs Andrews, are you okay?" I snapped out of my thoughts and stared at the doctor "You are sweating profusely," He said and handed me a tissue. I wiped my face and then stared at him. "What can I do? how much am I going to spend on drugs for her?" I asked He sighed as he stared at me with such sad eyes. "I'm sorry but there's not much drugs can do at this moment" "Then what do I do?" I asked "Your daughter needs to have two emergency surgeries Mrs Andrews" He finally said "Two?" I asked and he nodded again. "Her case is a little different from the ones I have seen so I would need to call in other medical experts, after checking your daughter's chart, the necessary calculations will be made and you will be called upon but now, you need to start getting ready to play your part to save her life" The doctor explained "I understand, thank you". I left the hospital dumbfounded as the doctor's words played in my head over and over again. How was I going to play my part when I didn't even have a source of income at the moment? That was the question I asked myself repeatedly till I got home. ***** A few days later after the doctor's appointment, I landed an interview at a prestigious bank. The salary offered for the job was very attractive so I decided to apply for the post of a personal assistant. As I rushed through the bustling city streets of New York. With each hurried step, I could not shake off the weight of struggle that had defined my life for the past three years. I have to get this job, only then would I finally escape the memories of the hospital visits, sleepless nights, and the unyielding fear of losing my precious baby. Whilst I made my way to the place of the interview, my chest felt tight and constricted but I told myself that everything would be fine. When I finally arrived, I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. I walked over to one of the chairs and sat down. The sound of traffic outside was muffled by the thick glass. Despite my initial nerves, I was brimming with excitement at the prospect of being assessed for a potentially life-changing opportunity. I took another deep breath, feeling my heart rate slow down a bit, and waited for my name to be called. Just then, a friendly voice broke the silence beside me. It was a woman with a warm smile who seemed to be in her early thirties. Her eyes sparkled with delight like she was happy to be here. "Hey, young lady! Are you here for the interview?" She asked with enthusiasm, trying to strike up a conversation with me. I sheepishly nodded "Yes…yes, I am." She extended her hand for a handshake and I took it. "I’m Sarah." She said and I smiled at her. Maybe it was because she had the same name as my daughter but I warmed up to her. "Nice to meet you, Sarah. I’m Savannah" "Are you also here for the position of a secretary?" Sarah asked to confirm and I nodded my head in refusal. "I am here for the position of a personal assistant" At least we weren't interviewing for the same position so I didn't need to make her an enemy. She nodded, "I heard that the CEO of Elysian Bank is not only a powerful and influential figure, but also possesses a captivating physique," "I don't know anything about him" I sincerely said, I was too occupied with getting a job than doing a background check on the CEO. "He is a young man with a well-toned and mature body that makes him even more attractive. With his buzzed platinum-blonde hair and mesmerizing black eyes, he exudes an irresistible charm," another lady chimed in, It was as if everyone here wanted this job so they could spend all day staring at this so-called handsome CEO. "Whenever he wears a suit, he exudes confidence and poise effortlessly. I remember applying for the position of personal assistant and never expected that such a young man would be the owner of such a prestigious financial institution," yet another lady added, her face turning red. "He's a sight to behold," Sarah finally finished with a smile before she beckoned for me to move closer to her and I did, "They say the CEO is not only attractive but also quite strict. It's going to be an interesting interview, that's for sure." She whispered "I guess we’ll find out soon enough." As we waited for one of us to be called in, Sarah and I engaged in a friendly conversation that helped to distract me from my worries. Her buoyant personality and infectious optimism brought a temporary sense of levity to the atmosphere. We shared stories and bonded over our discussion. Just then, my name echoed through the room, indicating that it was my turn, I swiftly rose from my seat and straightened my outfit, which had a few creases. With a hopeful smile, I glanced at Sarah and uttered, "Wish me good luck!" before making my way towards the office. I entered the room, and my eyes scanned the space, taking in the details of the environment. My heart dropped and my smile disappeared when my gaze landed on the figure behind the desk. There he was...Levi CarsonSAVANNAH'S POV"Levi?"The shock of seeing him there was palpable, and the haunting memories flooded my mind the minute our eyes met. It was a sight that stirred up emotions I had desperately tried to bury.Levi suddenly cut in with a sly grin on his face, it was not the kind of emotion I had wanted on his face when we met again.I wanted revenge then and I still want it now. I wanted to have reached my dream and had enough money but look at me. I was the exact opposite of everything I wanted. I was a nobody, I didn't have any money and my daughter's health was on a shaky foundation.Even now, Levi still had enough and was living fine, if I even got this job, he would be my boss. "Fate brought us back together" Was the first thing he said Fate brought us together? I wanted to scoff and walk out because I would rather sell my soul to the devil than smile with this man. But I needed the job so I remained composed."We meet again" My response was short enough to make me keep my sanity
SAVANNAH'S POVI made my way into the doctor's office that morning for the results of Sarah's checkup the day before. "Miss Andrews" The doctor smiled when he saw me but honestly I couldn't smile because there was nothing to be happy about."Good morning, how's my daughter doing?" I got straight to the point."Have you come up with the money Miss Andrews?" He askedI nodded in refusal before letting out a sigh. "I couldn't raise the money yet but I will," I said"I'm sorry but you don't have much time again, the cancer has spread through her internal organs," He said"My precious daughter" I began to sob and he pulled out a tissue for me before continuing. "I'm afraid that if we don't operate on her soon, it might be too late to do anything in a few weeks," The doctor said"What do you mean doctor?" I asked him, he couldn't possibly mean what I thought he did."I'm saying that your daughter will have less than a month to live if the surgery isn't done in the next two weeks,""My God"
SAVANNAH'S POVI meticulously fixed every element of my outfit, from the nicely pressed collar to the polished buttons, before entering the great dining hall of Rine's Gourmet, the restaurant where I worked. While I was wiping the counter later that day, I spotted a familiar face enter the restaurant, followed by a middle-aged woman who bore a strong likeness to him."What in the flying fuck was Levi doing here?" I muttered under my breath before rushing into the kitchen, praying that there would be another free waitress to take their order."Here you are Savannah, table five doesn't have anybody waiting at the table, get their orders," The manager said and I frowned Of all the days to be fully booked, why was it the day I didn't want to wait tables? "Yes sir," I said and then walked out of the kitchen with a frown.I had no idea I'd be serving them, but destiny had other plans. I felt a jolt of uneasiness as I approached the table where Levi and the woman were sitting. My stomach c
LEVII left my brother's restaurant in anger before heading to my office. How could he step in my way just like that? He had never spoken to me in that manner before and yet he went crazy just because I broke a plate and wanted to teach Savannah a lesson. He embarrassed me in front of Savannah herself, in front of her mother, and even in a crowd. If we were lucky enough, nobody in that restaurant would have caught it on camera. That bastard! Was there something going on between him and Savannah? Were they more than employee and employer? Did Savannah go after him because she knew that he was my brother and wanted to hurt him? That whore must want to get married to a rich man at all costs. I won't let her ruin the relationship I have with my brother and neither will I let her take everything from this family through him.I needed to act fast now. "Mr Carson" I immediately looked up at my secretary with a frown. "Why would you come into my office without knocking? Is everything okay?" I
SAVANNAH"Where is she?" I was dumbfounded by his sudden outburst. He doesn't mean?"You can't come to my house and then act as if I took something that is yours you bastard" I yelled at him. Thank God that Sarah wasn't home or she would have witnessed this right now. What would I have told her?I got out of the house and then stepped away from the house while holding Levi's hand, "You can't be yelling in my street so get the fuck out before I call the cops" I threatened and he burst into laughter"The cops? And what are they going to do once they find out that you are holding my child hostage?" He askedMy eyes widened, he just confirmed my thoughts, he knows about Sarah and that she is his daughter. "I don't know what you are talking about and I am not holding anyone hostage" Till when could I keep lying?"It will do you no good to keep lying savvy, tell me where my daughter is, and maybe I will decide not to take you to court or take her away from you"My heart stopped"You will do
SAVANNAHI was scared but I stood my ground, I would not let him come to my house just to intimidate me, I don't owe him anything. "What are you talking about?" I decided to play dumb and he scowled at me before snapping back, "Don't play dumb with me, Savannah, where the fuck is she?" "Who the fuck are you? You can't just barge into my life and expect me to answer your every question.” I retorted, my blood already heating up. His lips trembled, "Savannah, how could you keep our child a secret from me? Is this your way of punishing me for what happened between us?" His voice reverberated with an intense wave of anger."My way of punishing you? I suffered alone Levi and I couldn't get to you because you blocked me. My daughter isn't a punishment for your stupid lies, so don't you dare act like you are a victim here" I spat out in anger. "You still kept her from me" He whispered "Levi, I never wanted to keep her from you. You never gave me the chance to talk. You cut me off from ever
SAVANNAH'S POV"Let's end this relationship" Levi's words were like a sharp knife that pierced my soul from many angles causing me to feel pain all over my body"I...I don't understand, did I do something?" I managed to say as I tried to hold onto his hand, he pulled away from my touch as if I were a poisonous plant and stepped back."I don't have to explain myself to you, this is what I want," He said, not a hint of remorse or pity in his voice. Tears began to roll down my face as I began to understand the extent of the issue at hand.I struggled to find my voice as I asked him, "Is...Is there someone else?""No" His reply was quick and cold. I expected more but it never came. "Levi, please don't do this to me, don't do this to us" I pleaded as I fell to my knees in front of him."There is no us Savannah" My mouth dropped open at his choice of words. They were delivered with a harshness that shattered my heart into countless fragments, I could not bring myself to think that Levi, who
