Liam had left the hall with nothing in his hand, but he returned with a briefcase which he carefully kept to sit at his feet. He took a glance around the table, at his uncles and aunts, and said:

"I am terribly sorry for keeping us all waiting. May we proceed."

"Where is Elena?" his father asked.

"Um, she should just be around the corner," Liam said, making a show of craning his neck to find her.

"You have to call her in," Mrs Rebecca said. "She has to be here."

Liam turned to look at her. Had his father told them also about what he had in his notes? And they were all bloodthirsty for Elena? Hilarious.

"I don't think that's necessary," Liam said. "We can surely go on without her."

"Liam, why do you counter literally every instruction given to you?" his father snarled. "Can you run the affairs of this company, and the family and other logistics in it, if left alone?"
