Birthday

Fiona eyed the alcoholic beverage in her hand. She wondered when was the last time that she celebrated her birthday with someone. Five? Six years ago? Shrugging, Fiona started twirling the glass, a habit that she developed over the years of being alone. She leaned on the bar counter.

Lost in her own thoughts, Fiona started twirling her hair, using a finger to play with her auburn hair that reminded her too much of her mother; she hated it. She cocked her head to the side, staring at the muted bottles across her. For some reason, she felt its liquid have started to dance as it reflected the lights from the bar.

Perhaps it was only because she was drunk. Fiona chuckled inwardly before she looked at the dancefloor on the first floor of the bar. She was currently on the second floor and walking towards the dance floor would require her to walk down the glass stairs that glittered under the beautiful diamond-like chandelier then into the carpeted floor that would lead her to the spacious dance floor.

Seeing a group of ten people dancing, Fiona grabbed her glass and headed towards the stairs. Maybe staying in the second floor where all the VIP guests were, was not something someone bored in her life would do. Smiling, she was about to take her first steps down the stairs when she saw someone familiar just entering the bar.

Fiona’s smile disappeared, yet she didn’t panic. Instead, she walked towards the nearest VIP seating and calmly sat there, ignoring the person sitting opposite her.

“Excuse me… this seat is taken.”

Fiona heard a man’s voice but she ignored it as she opened her black pouch and grabbed a few hundred dollars. Then she put it on top of black painted wooden table, pushing it towards the person. “Let me stay here,” she said without removing her gaze from none other than her lovely sister— the woman who took her fiance from her, five years ago.

Kyra Chen— her half-sister, daughter of the woman that her father married after he divorced Fiona’s mother.

Fiona didn’t even realize how she no longer felt anything towards the woman who helped her mother ruin Fiona’s life. No hatred, no anger and definitely no love. The realization hit her like a brick. All these years, Fiona never thought that one day, she would feel nothing towards the people who abandoned her.

She smiled and lowered her head when she saw Kyra walking towards the second floor. She was with her friends, smiling and joking around. She was clearly having fun.

However, this wasn’t something that bothered Fiona. Who cared if she was having fun? Right now, all she cared about was the fact that Kyra was also in New York. Fiona thought for a few minutes before she realized that Kyra should be here for an international conference. Just like Fiona, Kyra took medicine too. However, Kyra and Fiona were too different.

Fiona got her license at the age of twenty-one. A genius in the field. Unlike her, Kyra was the exact opposite. She was spoiled and thought she could pay her way to success. In the end, she failed a few of her classes in high school and got into college a little later than most people. If Fiona was right, Kyra should be twenty-six now. Two years younger than her.

However, she wasn’t too sure if she finally became a doctor. Of course, the loud sound on the booth next door answered her question.

“Dr. Kyra Chen! The name just sounded too cool!” One of the women’s voices drifted towards Fiona. She lifted an eyebrow as she continued to listen. “Hey, now that you finally became a doctor, are you and Walter going to tie the knot soon?”

Fiona smiled when she heard Kyra giggle and assured the woman that marriage was coming soon. Shaking her head, Fiona decided to just call it a night and leave the club before Kyra would notice her.

“You know those women?”

Finally, Fiona remembered the man sitting opposite her. She lifted her head and met his icy gray eyes. It was cold, intimidating. It reminded her of the eyes of the prominent drug lords that she had operated on before. It reminded her too much of the eye of a deadly man. She nodded in response.

Slowly, she took notice of his face—chiseled and beautiful. His short hair only made his eyes more noticeable. “I’m Luca…” The coldness in the man’s eyes disappeared. Fiona wondered if it had been another one of her imaginations earlier. “You are?”

“Fiona.” She thought she saw a tinge of recognition in the man’s eyes. The emotion vanished quickly, she wasn’t too sure about that though.

Interest flashed in the man’s eyes as he rested his elbow on the bar and faced her. Smirking, the man shamelessly dragged his gaze towards the low-cut neckline of her dress before dragging his eyes back to her face. She giggled inwardly. “Are you here for business? Or pleasure?” he asked.

“I’m just looking for someone to save me for boredom,” she answered almost immediately. Fiona frowned. She didn’t know what had gotten into her. Was it because the man in front of her was good-looking? She leaned forward and tilted her head to observe his handsome face.

And he didn’t hide the amusement in his gray eyes. She ignored the rushing sensation in her stomach.

“You don’t look … bored.”He smirked and slowly reached out to her hand. Using a finger, he slowly traced circles at the back of her palm.

“Really?” she giggled. She didn’t know if this was the effect of Luca being a handsome man or the fact that she actually saw her sister again and felt nothing about it or maybe it was the fact that he had a British accent. Actually, she was certain it was all of them. The realization that she had moved on was making her want to celebrate. And what better way to celebrate than to sleep with a handsome model?

Fiona thought the reason why this man looked a little familiar was because he was an actor or a model. A sexy European model wearing a three piece expensive suit.

“Stop staring at me like that.”

“Why?” She faked a hurt look as her lips turned downwards into a cute pout.

“I might think that you would want to sleep with me.”

His boldness surprised her. But instead of scaring her away, Fiona felt a sudden rush of excitement in her body— the type of rush that she felt every time she held her gun or… killed someone. It was fun. “And what would happen if I really want to sleep with you?”

He finished his drink before he spoke in a much deeper voice. “Do you think it would be a bad idea to invite you to my room?” His gaze dropped momentarily towards her chest. She thought she saw him gulp and it made her giddy.

Her eyebrow cocked before her lips turned upwards slowly into a sexy smile. “Very bad. But then again… I am aware that most things we consider as bad… are very pleasurable. So, yes. I would love to finish drinking in your room.”

“Only drink?” He lifted his hand and used a finger to push the glass out of her hand.

“Do you have something else in your mind?” she forced the words out of her mouth as she wondered when was the last time someone made her this wet just from a small contact.

NEVER. This never happened before.

“Oh. I do…” She squirmed at his response. She didn’t know if she had actually moaned when he slid his hands into hers. “I do have a lot of things in my mind.”

“Something that involves my body?” She didn’t know where she found the courage to talk like that.

He leaned closer, erasing the distance between them. “Everything that involves your body.” His voice sounded rough and breathy against her ears. She held her breath, fighting the surge of desire that wracked inside her.

She felt her cheeks turn hot, her heartbeat racing in her chest as she said, “Then, what are you waiting for? Lead the way.”
