Five years later…
“Ms. Willows, we’ve arrived at the destination.”
I removed my sunglasses. I raised my hand and untied my ponytail, letting my black, long hair down.
Before I got out of the car, I took off my coat, revealing a white midi dress.
My assistant opened the car door for me. I stepped down from the car in my flat shoes and stared straight at the Smith family’s mansion across the street.
“Ms. Willows, the Smith family is a big family with complicated relationships. Are you sure you don’t need me to come with you?” my assistant asked with concern.
“No need. Keep an eye on the Morgan family. I can handle this by myself,” I replied indifferently.
I finally came back after five years.
I would settle the account with the Morgans one by one.
The Smith family was all that mattered the most to me.
Five years ago, I had given birth prematurely to two sons and a daughter in the electrical room, after which I fainted from bleeding out.
Fortunately, before I fainted, I had called my friend, Jenny Reyes. Jenny discreetly took me out of the hospital, and under desperate circumstances, I had only taken one of my children.
Jenny intended to go back and recover my other two children. However, Fe and her group discovered the babies’ cries then.
At the same time, the Smith family arrived at the hospital.
Jenny was afraid that the Morgans would harm the babies. She remembered that the two babies were Calix’s flesh and blood, so his men would never harm the children. As such, Jenny took my son and me to France.
As a result, I had been missing my children for five years.
The Smith family was the most incredible in New York until I found out about the news that Calix was involved in an accident five years ago. Ever since then, he never woke up. The doctor diagnosed it as paralysis and said he would remain comatose for the rest of his life.
Yet, the Smiths are looking for a spouse for him. Calix was once the most handsome man in the city. His admirers were everywhere, and many desired to be his wife.
However, who would want to marry a crippled man? Even though he was once a handsome man, they believed he was no longer as good-looking after five years.
I walked straight to the main entrance of the Smith family’s mansion and tore off the matchmaking notice posted on the wall next to it.
“I’ll marry Calix Smith and be his wife.”
The Smith family’s servants were dumbfounded when they saw my appearance. They might think I am crazy.
“Take me to Calix.” I ripped the matchmaking notice into pieces and casually tossed them into the air.
“That would be against the rules. I have to inform Mr. Smith and Madam Smith first.” The butler replied after sizing me up.
The butler made a phone call.
I believed I would not be seeing Calix with immediate effect. After all, the Smith family was the greatest in New York. How could they possibly allow me to meet Calix with ease?
Despite this, the butler suddenly took me to see Calix after the phone call.
It looked like the Smiths no longer regarded Calix highly. Otherwise, they would not act so casually.
The Smith family’s mansions were huge. There were many courtyards like Buckingham Palace. The car was driven on the road for ten minutes before stopping at a white mansion.
“Ms. Willows, this way, please.” The butler gestured for me to enter the living hall.
“Give me the money. You’ve lost again!”
“Why am I so down on luck? How can I be the one who always loses?”
Several male and female servants surrounded the living hall. They were watching the people playing poker on the couch.
“Ahem! Ahem!” the butler faked several coughs.
The servants quickly took away the poker cards. However, it took them some time to clean up the ground nut shells scattered across the floor.
“Mr. Butler, why are you here?” the man who had won the money grinned as he went up in our direction.
“Let me introduce her to you. She’s Calix’s wife, Mrs. Smith.” The butler gave a hint through his eyes as he said, “Rocky, I’ll leave her to you.”
“Noted,” the man named Rocky replied.
The butler left the mansion after finishing his explanation to them.
I studied the living hall carefully. The interior design was modest compared to its opulent exterior. There was nothing else apart from a few decent chairs and tables.
The servants, who indulged in comfortable lives, did not seem very nice, either.
Indeed, all the speculations in my heart turned out true.
Even if Calix had a chance to awake from his illness, he would only chain up by such an environment.
“Mrs. Smith, come; I’ll show you around.”
I gave him a cold glance without responding to him.
“What’s wrong? Do you seriously think that you’re the madam of the house when you’re in this mansion?”
The others laughed at Rocky’s words.
“Which one is Calix’s room?” I looked up at the floors.
“Look at how anxious you are. Aren’t you aware that Mr. Calix Smith is a paralyzed man? Even if you see him, he can’t satisfy your needs….”
I turned around and walked toward the staircase, ignoring those shameless people.
“If you want to go upstairs, you must go through me first!” Rocky shouted angrily. He then glanced at the male servants beside him, signaling them to stop me.
Stupid act!
“Only idiots will get in my way.” I spat out the words coolly.
“Pfft! Bitch, that’s very snobbish of you to act as if you’re the madam of the house even before you are married to Mr. Calix! Give her a lesson!” “Ahh…” one of the male servants raised his hand to strike me. I grabbed and twisted his arm with force as swift as lightning before tossing him to the floor. The other three male servants lunged at me. I did not stop them. I assaulted them with kindness and overcame them using various approaches. As a result, they were defeated. “Bitch, I never expected you to be such a good fighter despite your frail appearance.” Rocky rolled up his sleeves and lunged at me aggressively. I saw a broken stick on the floor, which had been used by one of the servants. I kicked the stick up, and it flew like an arrow at Rocky’s head. “Ahh…!” his head was cut open, and within an instant, blood covered his face. “Call Ms. Violet now! Quick!” he shouted at the female servants beside him. I went upstairs. A thick layer of dust covered the floor. Footprints
I took good care of Calix. To me, he was neither a cripple nor a stranger. He was both my children’s father and my savior. If not for him lending me 150,000 dollars, my mother would have died, and I would have never known my true origin, the Morgan family, and Troy’s ugly side. Although it was only a deal between us, not everyone was willing to agree, especially since I was in such desperate need. I cleaned his body and helped him to put on clean clothes. Just then, I heard melodious harmonica music outside from the open window. The music sounded depressing and sad. One felt poignant when one heard the music. The Smith family’s mansion was the largest private mansion in New York. They were as wealthy as royalty, and even their servants were pampered. So, why would someone play such depressing music? I went in the direction where the harmonica music came from with the thought of familiarizing myself with the mansion’s geography, only to find myself at a particular lotus pond. The
“You’re actually fighting back, bitch?!” Julian was furious. He bent his body by 90 degrees, then charged at me. He attempted to ram me with his head. I cast a cool glance at him before I casually delivered a kick and sent the fat boy rolling into the lotus pond. The male servant, who had been made to kneel on the ground, could care less about his own pain and immediately jumped into the lotus pond when he saw this. He and the other male servants worked together to save Julian. “Good boy, can you tell me what’s your name?” I squatted before the little boy and asked him cautiously and painstakingly. The little boy merely stared at me with his large eyes. He pouted his lips and did not answer. “Don’t be scared. I’m not a bad person.” I caressed his head and smiled warmly. “I’m your mommy, your biological mommy. I’ll protect you from now on, and you won’t be bullied by others anymore.” The little boy frowned slightly. His innocent eyes did not show much emotion. He might be confuse
The woman named Adeline might be thinking, why I’m with the little boy?“Yogi—” Jade’s sentiment cut off Adeline.“Mother, do you see how badly your granddaughter was hurt? How can you still laugh at this moment?” Jade retorted. “And your precious Julian has been thrown into the lotus pond. He’s frail and will certainly get a fever later.”“Jade’s right. You can't hurt my great-grandchildren even though you’re speaking the truth.” The former madam chastised me.“She’s your great-granddaughter, and that fat boy is your great-grandson. How about the paralyzed man on the bed? Isn’t he your grandson too?”“And him.” I rolled up the young boy’s sleeve, lifted his hand, and showed it to the former madam. “Look at the scars on his arm and the bruises he just got a while ago.“Mrs. Smith, don’t you feel sorry for him? Don’t you love him?” The more I spoke, the angrier I became.“Is that… Yogi?” I did not answer her. I hugged Yogi dearly and said, “Mrs. Smith, I believe you’ve not seen him fo
“Aunt Adeline, don’t you think your question is very contradictory? Since you know no woman will want to marry Calix, why are you still finding him a spouse by putting on a matchmaking notice at the expense of all your fortune in the Smith family? Isn’t this going to make you end up with nothing?”I saw how Aunt Adeline forced a smile and seemed not to hold back her tears, but she tried to cover up by quickly wiping them off.“My son was an incredibly talented man. He was claimed to be a genius in the commercial world, and the former master adored him. Unfortunately, God seemed to be jealous of great talents. One day, five years ago, he was involved in an accident, and a bullet struck his head. “Although the doctors had managed to save his life, he would never wake up again. Fortunes mean nothing to me. But I can use them to persuade the Smith family so that I still get a chance to find someone to take care of him.“I didn’t have high expectations. I hoped those women who used to adm
“Lily, tell her that you will. We won’t let this stranger win the fight.” Violet went to Lily Gates’s side, tugged at her arms, and said matter-of-factly.“Violet, I…” Lily frowned and whispered something to her.It seems like Lily would not have come to the Smith family’s mansion if it wasn’t for her. She might want to see whomever the woman wants to marry Calix, which is me.“Lily.” Adeline smiled softly. She stood up from her chair, went up to Lily’s side, and took her hand as she said, “I’m aware that you have always been very fond of Calix, right? If you agree to marry him now, I’ll certainly give my blessings to both of you.“After all, we have a close relationship with the Gates family. I’m sure the rest of the Smith family members would have no qualms about this.”“I… I can’t.” Lily was terrified after she heard Adeline’s words. She shoved her away. “Aunt Adeline, I admit I have a crush on Calix. But I’ve always treated him like my older brother. How can siblings marry each ot
Chapter 9“Hmph! Loser! I’ve been raising you for five years, yet you remain ungrateful! You are just like your bitchy mother. I wonder why Calix would even want a bastard like you. You…”As Violet was speaking, she raised her hand and was about to slap Yogi.“Stop it!” Anger filled me when I saw Yogi being bullied.“Yogi, your greedy stepmother has come.” Violet crossed her arms and said sarcastically.I pulled Yogi to my back to protect him.“I thought you’d only lay your hands on me and won’t harm the innocent. I had no idea you are a crazy woman who won’t even spare your own nephew!” I frowned as I rebuked Violet coolly.“Me? Crazy?” Violet raised her hand again to strike me.“Why not? Do you expect me to call you dear Violet? Well, that depends on how you carry yourself and whether you respect me as your senior.” I stood on the spot. Meanwhile, Violet, who had raised her hand, dared not go on to strike me.“Respect you as my senior, huh? You’re just a cheap woman who will do anyt
I was cleaning Calix’s body inside the mansion. After that, I drew some blood from his finger and dripped it into the glass on the table.I gently wrapped the plaster around his needlepoint wound.“Look at you; you’re sleeping peacefully and comfortably here. Have you ever thought of Yogi? I don’t believe our son is mute. He must have been used to being bullied by the Smith family and ended up being too traumatized to speak.“If you wake up and see how skinny Yogi is and his scars and bruises, I believe your heart will break.”I heaved a sigh. What’s the point of talking to a crippled man?I rose and took his dirty long pants to the bathroom to wash them.A stinky stench entered my nostrils after I came out of the bathroom.I pulled Calix’s quilt away, and the smell became stronger.“Seriously? Calix, are you torturing me? Didn’t I ask if you wanted to poo just now? If you want, you have to do it quickly so I can change your clothes at a time. I’ve just put on clean clothes on you, an
