Chapter 2

Five years later…

“Ms. Willows, we’ve arrived at the destination.”

I removed my sunglasses. I raised my hand and untied my ponytail, letting my black, long hair down.

Before I got out of the car, I took off my coat, revealing a white midi dress.

My assistant opened the car door for me. I stepped down from the car in my flat shoes and stared straight at the Smith family’s mansion across the street.

“Ms. Willows, the Smith family is a big family with complicated relationships. Are you sure you don’t need me to come with you?” my assistant asked with concern.

“No need. Keep an eye on the Morgan family. I can handle this by myself,” I replied indifferently.

I finally came back after five years.

I would settle the account with the Morgans one by one.

The Smith family was all that mattered the most to me.

Five years ago, I had given birth prematurely to two sons and a daughter in the electrical room, after which I fainted from bleeding out.

Fortunately, before I fainted, I had called my friend, Jenny Reyes. Jenny discreetly took me out of the hospital, and under desperate circumstances, I had only taken one of my children.

Jenny intended to go back and recover my other two children. However, Fe and her group discovered the babies’ cries then.

At the same time, the Smith family arrived at the hospital.

Jenny was afraid that the Morgans would harm the babies. She remembered that the two babies were Calix’s flesh and blood, so his men would never harm the children. As such, Jenny took my son and me to France.

As a result, I had been missing my children for five years.

The Smith family was the most incredible in New York until I found out about the news that Calix was involved in an accident five years ago. Ever since then, he never woke up. The doctor diagnosed it as paralysis and said he would remain comatose for the rest of his life.

Yet, the Smiths are looking for a spouse for him. Calix was once the most handsome man in the city. His admirers were everywhere, and many desired to be his wife.

However, who would want to marry a crippled man? Even though he was once a handsome man, they believed he was no longer as good-looking after five years.

I walked straight to the main entrance of the Smith family’s mansion and tore off the matchmaking notice posted on the wall next to it.

“I’ll marry Calix Smith and be his wife.”

The Smith family’s servants were dumbfounded when they saw my appearance. They might think I am crazy.

“Take me to Calix.” I ripped the matchmaking notice into pieces and casually tossed them into the air.

“That would be against the rules. I have to inform Mr. Smith and Madam Smith first.” The butler replied after sizing me up.

The butler made a phone call.

I believed I would not be seeing Calix with immediate effect. After all, the Smith family was the greatest in New York. How could they possibly allow me to meet Calix with ease?

Despite this, the butler suddenly took me to see Calix after the phone call.

It looked like the Smiths no longer regarded Calix highly. Otherwise, they would not act so casually.

The Smith family’s mansions were huge. There were many courtyards like Buckingham Palace. The car was driven on the road for ten minutes before stopping at a white mansion.

“Ms. Willows, this way, please.” The butler gestured for me to enter the living hall.

“Give me the money. You’ve lost again!”

“Why am I so down on luck? How can I be the one who always loses?”

Several male and female servants surrounded the living hall. They were watching the people playing poker on the couch.

“Ahem! Ahem!” the butler faked several coughs.

The servants quickly took away the poker cards. However, it took them some time to clean up the ground nut shells scattered across the floor.

“Mr. Butler, why are you here?” the man who had won the money grinned as he went up in our direction.

“Let me introduce her to you. She’s Calix’s wife, Mrs. Smith.” The butler gave a hint through his eyes as he said, “Rocky, I’ll leave her to you.”

“Noted,” the man named Rocky replied.

The butler left the mansion after finishing his explanation to them.

I studied the living hall carefully. The interior design was modest compared to its opulent exterior. There was nothing else apart from a few decent chairs and tables.

The servants, who indulged in comfortable lives, did not seem very nice, either.

Indeed, all the speculations in my heart turned out true.

Even if Calix had a chance to awake from his illness, he would only chain up by such an environment.

“Mrs. Smith, come; I’ll show you around.”

I gave him a cold glance without responding to him.

“What’s wrong? Do you seriously think that you’re the madam of the house when you’re in this mansion?”

The others laughed at Rocky’s words.

“Which one is Calix’s room?” I looked up at the floors.

“Look at how anxious you are. Aren’t you aware that Mr. Calix Smith is a paralyzed man? Even if you see him, he can’t satisfy your needs….”

I turned around and walked toward the staircase, ignoring those shameless people.

“If you want to go upstairs, you must go through me first!” Rocky shouted angrily. He then glanced at the male servants beside him, signaling them to stop me.

Stupid act!

“Only idiots will get in my way.” I spat out the words coolly.
