Chapter 29

From Daunte's POV

Leaving the hospital was probably the worst idea I ever had. I felt like shit, but what would have happened to Alessia if I hadn't? It was risky for her to be alone every day, so I decided to leave, but I also knew that I couldn't protect her adequately at the moment. All I knew was that I needed to protect her the best way I knew how, and that was to be by her side. I had to ensure Alessia was safe, even if that meant risking my own life. Beyond that, nothing else mattered to me.

Following my conversation with Hector, I decided to give her some space. My greatest fear was losing her, but if Maliyla and Hector could survive everything they went through, then so could Alessia and I. I only needed to be her friend before anything else, and everything would work out fine.

Taking the time to talk to her was vital, which was my main reason for bringing her to eat. It gave us the time we needed to be alone. The conversation was a bit awkward, but in the end, I saw a small
