The Key - Part I

“Erdem?” I wondered aloud. Stirring slightly and opened my eyes, still full of sleep. I could barely make out his outline in the dark. But when his fingers gently moved some of my hair from over my eyes, I knew it was him.

“I’m sorry I woke you up,” he murmured.

“No, it’s okay.” I drowsily muttered. “When did you get back?” I asked as I reached out to turn on the lamp on my bedside table, but he gently grasped my hand.

“Just now. I just wanted to see you before I go to sleep.” He brought my hand to his lips and laid a soft kiss. “You should sleep. I’ll go.”

He tried to stand up, but I grabbed his arm. “What happened?” He gently asked, kneeling back down where he once was.

“Stay,” I whispered and I could sense him hesitate.

“I don’t think I should…”

“No, stay,” I whispered tugging his arm. “Please.”

For a while, he stared at me. I could sense him hesitate but not a moment later, that hesitation or whatever he had vanished. He nodded and I moved over slightly, allowing him to climb into
