Alicia's POV

Ramirez held me closer, and we both turned our attention to the werewolf soldier who had brought a message, and it seemed uncomfortable. We were both deeply affected by it.

If this is the kind of challenge all destined mates encounter after marriage, I don't think I want to get married in my next life, assuming there even is one.

"Show us the way," Ramirez responded, pulling me along with him. Lately, I've noticed Ramirez frequently walking in on Alpha, Alex, and me, and it's starting to feel less like a coincidence.

Upon arriving at the palace, we found another dead guard, but this time it didn't appear to be the work of the vanishing arrow. His blood seemed as if it had been drained from him.

"Where did you discover him?" Alpha Alex inquired, not waiting for Ramirez to ask.

"He was left outside," another werewolf guard answered.

"Have I not repeatedly told everyone to watch out for each other?! Haven't I?! You all let us get killed, one by one, and now war is upon us.
