Chapter Fifteen

Selene

I hold my hands firmly against my ears as I rock on my haunches in the all-consuming darkness. Their screams and begs for mercy ricochet like miss fired bullets down the long empty hallways, entering every room in turn and filling my head to bursting point. No one comes to help them like no one came to save my mother and sister earlier tonight. I sink my head down to my bent knees and bite into my own flesh to stop me screaming out in terror. The warmth of my blood and the copper taste in my mouth give me something to focus on. The pain doesn’t register. One voice is cut off mid scream and the column I’m tethered to vibrates against the hard metal of my hands cuffs. Shock waves seep through the walls and floor from the dull thud overhead.

Is she dead? I can’t comprehend losing someone else. I’ve only known the girl a matter of hours, but still, another loss so soon after everything else, might just be too much to cope with. Tears mix with my blood and trickle in
