Chapter 5

Upon my arrival home, it was past midnight. I wasn't actually sick; it was just an excuse to catch my breath. His presence made me feel stifled. I sat in my car in the enclosed garage, gazing at the two duffle bags filled with money. I glanced at the note he had written me and gave it another thorough read. I let out a long and annoyed sigh and got out of my car, taking the bags with me, thankful I could finally breathe again.

“I can not accept this.” I said to myself as I opened the door to my home. I stepped inside and shut the door behind me when I flipped the lights on. His voice filled my ears.

"You are under no obligation to accept the money, but I hope you will accept me. Come with me, Emberleigh," Maximus' voice whispered softly in my ears.

I jumped and let out a small scream. “What are you doing here?”

He smirked, “You didn’t think that I wouldn’t have found out who you are? It didn’t take much to convince your boss to give me your information. A little money thrown his way,
