Amara Nicholas:I was nervous when Darlington called me as I was already leaving Bruce's company. I didn't know what to tell Darlington, and I was nervous when I saw him return home looking annoyed. I smiled at him, wondering if Bruce had told him I came to visit. I knew Darlington didn't want me to be close to his friend, but Bruce speaking to me about marriage was something I hadn't expected.Bruce was nice and friendly, and I wondered if that was why Darlington liked his sister. Thinking about Jenna, I scowled as I was alone in my bedroom. I missed the nights I would usually lay on Darlington's bed and also, with the pillow separating us, I would still kick it away after rolling carelessly on the bed.I thought about Darlington and compared him to Bruce, wondering if I would like to date Bruce? No! I shook my head, as I was already intimate with Darlington, and the only thing I wanted was for him to acknowledge our marriage and also end his affair with Jenna. Darlington hadn't done
Amara's POV:"Good morning, Amara. What's up with you, and why weren't you picking up my phone call?" Bruce asked me as soon as I answered his call."I'm sorry, I'm just waking up from sleep now," I said."Really? Sorry for waking you up early. How was your night?" Bruce asked, his voice sounding calm."My night was cool. How about you?" I asked him, to which he replied, "I'm already in the office, expecting to see you, but it seems you won't be coming to the office today. Did you speak with Darlington concerning our agreement last night?""No, I didn't. Darlington was in a foul mood, and also, I didn't get a chance to see him this morning as he might have already left for the company, and I'm just waking up too," I said, yawning as I stretched on my bed. To my shock, a knock on my room door caught my attention and interrupted my call with Bruce. Then, Darlington poked his head into my room, slowly peeking at me and still dressed in his casual home wear."What? Are you still at home?"
Amara's POV:After my phone call with Bruce had ended, I wasn't happy knowing that Jenna will be back next week. I had anticipated that she wouldn't be back so soon, but having heard Bruce say that, I wasn't happy. Well, a knock on my door interrupted my mind from wandering off, and a maid came in with my breakfast as it was almost noon. I sighed and drank my tea with bread, later I went to have my bath and to dress up as I was still unclothed in my room.I decided to see Darlington again as I saw that he was not going to the office in the morning. I assumed he would still be around the house, although I didn't want to go to his sitting room, but I just wanted to speak to him. After I was through wearing a brown blouse and black skirt and my slippers, I exited the guest room and stepped into the living room. Unfortunately, I saw Samara was in the living room and accessing her laptop. Well, since the last time that Samara's fiancé came to see her, as I saw the way they looked lovingly
Darlington's POV:I was surprised to enter my sitting room and perceive the familiar orange scent of Amara lingering around. It seemed like she had just taken a bath.I was surprised to see her, though. I was more than shocked to see Mrs. Zara Colton in the living room. Jenna had also phoned me and told me that she would be arriving the following week as discussed, and I was restless about it all. I didn't know what to explain to Jenna, although I had told her that Amara and I were not married. But seeing how naturally pretty Amara looked, I didn't want to let her go."Good evening," Amara greeted me, calming me down as I was still upset about seeing Mrs. Zara. She had actually come to discuss my marriage with my mother, and though I knew my mother hadn't informed Mrs. Zara yet that Amara was my arranged bride, the matter was still kept hidden from the Coltons' family.Bruce had also called me for us to meet, but I didn't want to hang out with Bruce, knowing that he's also interested
Darlington Briggs:"No way, Mom! Anyway, just allow me to deal with my problem, and I will sort it out later," I said, and my mother sighed and replied, "That's fine. Let's await Jenna's return. I'm sure she will have a better explanation and apologize to you. You should forgive her and continue with the marriage."I looked at my mother's face in stunned silence and finally asked her, "Where's Samara? I haven't seen her since I returned. I went to my house today to do some work there and to furnish it. Maybe soon, I will be leaving this house so that I can think clearly as a man and not have whether you or dad influencing my life.""That's fine. So long as you marry Jenna first, and go to your new house with her. I'm okay with that, but you wouldn't marry Amara, or accept her either," My mother replied."Okay, Mom. Can I eat now? Where's Nora?" I called our maid and sent her to go upstairs and summon Samara to come join us for dinner. Samara didn't show up, and I was already exhausted
Amara's POV:On the 31st of December, we were preparing for the crossover night celebration. I was in my room, meticulously brushing my hair strands after having my bath. I donned a long blue sleeping gown and stood by my mirror. When I heard a knock on my door, I walked up to it and pulled it open. I then saw my mother's maid, Agnes, standing there and smiling at me.Agnes wore a similar long blue gown; she was light-skinned and of average height like me. I am 24 years old, and I asked her, "What do you want, Agnes?"Smiling back at me, Agnes replied, "Good evening, Amara. Your father sent for you to come downstairs and see him before the crossover night begins.""Why? But we just finished having our dinner, and I am not interested in the fireworks," I replied."I don't know, but your dad is waiting to see you, and the guests had all gone outside, preparing for the fireworks," Agnes said."That's fine. Inform my father that I will be with him shortly. I want to use the bathroom," I to
Amara's POV:"Dad, I don't want to go to the city. I don't want to marry a city man," I protest. Tears are gathering in my eyes.My father stood up from the blue couch. He is a very tall man and dark-skinned in complexion, unlike me and my mother, who are both light-skinned.My father sighed and said, "Amara, we are not disowning you from being our daughter. You will always be our daughter, but you must start your own life and family to give your mother and me grandchildren. We also don't want you to leave us, but we cannot trust all these people here to look after you, so your mother and I decided on this: for you to go to the city, and there, you will be genuinely loved, not by greedy people who may be pretending with you to gain favor from us.""Dad!" Tears flowed freely from my eyes like taps, and my mother stood up and walked up to meet me."You don't have to cry. I can assure you that the Briggs family are good people, and Mr. Joshua Briggs is my childhood friend. You will be tre
Amara's POV:We got into my bedroom, which was very large, and my mother accompanied me to pack some of my things. She didn't want me to carry all my loads, reminding me that the Briggs family was wealthy, and I didn't have to stress about arranging all my things and packing everything that I owned. We finished packing all the boxes around 1 a.m., and my mother was exhausted. She stretched and yawned and told me, "I have to go back now to my room to meet your father. Good night, my princess.""Okay, Mom, but I am not still happy about this marriage. Can't you speak to my father again about this?" I asked my mother. I was looking at her face with my blue-shining eyes that glimmer with hope at hearing her reply."No, Amara. I want you to marry and give me a grandchild. I cannot speak to your father about this again. Not to worry, when you get there to the city, I will be calling you from time to time to know how you're faring," my mother told me, and hot tears freely streamed down from m
