Chapter 37 Why Are You Here?

Judy felt that the thoughts of this man were inscrutable.

She glanced at the few strands of greens left in the boxed meal and said, "Sir, if you're not going to eat this, may I?"

Waste was not an option.

Before Lewis could speak, Judy had already cleaned out everything.

"Your appetite is really something," Lewis said with a veiled implication, clearly implying more than just her eating habits.

Judy did not catch the implied meaning and responded casually, "That's because you've never known what it's like to be hungry. Those who have felt hunger know how fortunate it is to have a full stomach."

As Judy was tidying up the meal containers, she explained, "John and I are orphans from the welfare house. The resources there are limited, and we had to enter society early. We earned our college tuition ourselves. In order to save for tuition, I have worked all kinds of bottom-tier jobs. John and I even spent two months on a construction site during summer vacation..."
