Do you miss the city?

Mitch sighed. The expression in their eyes returned to normal as he enveloped me in a bone-crushing hug. “We are sorry, darling. It's just that each time with you brings out our possessive instinct. We want to be the only ones in your world. The only men you look out for. We apologize if you don't like it.” Smiling, he looked down at me as his fingers weaved through my hair.

“It's okay.” I returned the smile, knowing there was no reason to think of the past, not when I had them with me. It made little sense to dwell on things that had already happened. After all, they weren't with me back then. They wouldn't have done it if we had been together back then —not like Father would approve.

We sat back in our chairs before the server returned to receive our orders. I let my companions order for me.

We ate in silence after that, my mates occasionally looking towards me. It was as if they didn't want to take their eyes off me, to make certain I wouldn't turn into smoke and disappear.
