“That's all, miss,” Janet said, dropping the last file on the table. She stepped back, smiling at me. “Do you need anything else?” She looked eager for more tasks.

“No, that will be all. I still need to go through these.” Sighing, I gestured to the mountain load of work waiting for me. Janet offered to help me with some of the ones she could, but I didn't want to let her do all the work for me. She had been working hard for the past month. Having her do extra work didn't sound good to me. I didn't want to put her through any more work than the one I gave.

“Didn't I offer to help, miss? You know you can rely on me to complete the work. It will be done before you even realize it. Why don't you let —”

“It's okay.” I checked the time on my wristwatch, a frown marring my features as I looked up at her. “It's time for lunch. Why are you still here? Go on. You don't have to stick around to help me, okay?” I smiled at my secretary, who had been more than a worker to me this past month
