Overprotective fathers

They froze at my words, exchanging glances between them as if they had secrets themselves. I raised an eyebrow at that, waiting for them to come clean, but they didn't.

“What is it you want to tell us?” Mitch asked, frowning. “Are you okay? Or — have you changed your mind about helping us at the office? That's not fair, baby girl! You promised. You can't just disappoint us. We have let —”

“That's not it,” I interrupted before he could say anything more, knowing that he would only spurt more nonsense if care wasn't taken. Whatever informed them I was trying to forgo my promise?
