Chapter 2

'Ouch' I exclaimed

Without even thinking i blurted out 'For the love of goddess, move your gigantic ass out of the way' as I rub my head as I walked past.

There was a chuckle behind me, all exclaimed at the same time like they practiced to make it perfect, 'same old vee aye'

As my friends round the corner and lay their eyes on who I had just insulted, gasped in shock and a hint of terror, all bowed saying 'Alpha'.

I looked over my shoulder, and there he was staring at me, his eyes searing into mine. In classic vee style I rolled my eyes and continued to my dorm, uttering under my breath, 'stalk much'.

As I made my way to my room, my friends caught up. All three stating how stupid I was. Mum over hearing them asked.

'What has vee done?'

All three in unison, 'vee insulted Alpha Jackson'

Mums face that once bore a smile turned to shock and worry.

'Vee, darling when will you learn to think before you speak'? Mum questions.

'You know, when I'm dead or hell freezes over, what ever comes first'. I answer

Mum looks up,  her hand on her forehead,  'zeus, give me strength'

I look at her, she really seemed to appreciate all gods and goddesses now, especially as far as to ask them for strength. I made a mental not to find out who this God was.mum had peaked my curiosity.

After a good two hours of packing, laughting and bickering. We were on the road, only stopping for food and fuel. It was a long drive back. Little did I know I was going back to my destiny, the very thing I was running from. In exactly 43 days I will be 18. And my mate will be revealed to me.

Sophie who turns 18 in a week, has been researching the mate bond. She was scared and excited at the same time. It didn't take a rocket scientist to see she was completely beside herself, and was eagerly awaiting to turn 18.

The ride home was long and I took this time to take a nap. It felt like I had just closed my eyes, when mum slammed on the breaks. Forcing me forward in my seat hitting my head on the dashboard.

'What the.....ouch' I grunted in shock and pain. For the second time today I had hit my head. At the rate I was going I may have a concussion by morning. As I recovered my bearings, I looked out the windows to take in my surroundings. It was dark and gloomy, the darkness of the trees contrasted perfectly with the night sky. If it wasn't dark and gloomy outside the car it may just be picturesque. Then something drew my attention to the front of the car.

There he was again. Standing all smug in the middle of the road. He wore a jacket over the white shirt I saw him in earlier today, his hands were in his pockets, there was a glint of a smirk on his face.

'What the hell does he want' I mutter

'Vee, for once can you please think before you speak' mum asked with a hint of fear in her voice

Mum wound down the window, as Alpha Jackson approached

'Alpha' Mum nodded respectfully as he leaned in the windows

'Ladies' alpha said with superiority in his voice and a smile on his face

If he wasn't a smug, life wreaking mutt. His gesture may have been intoxicating.

'Can I join you ladies, my car broke down' Alpha Jackson asked.

Deep down I was screaming 'no.... make him walk back or even shift and run' I couldn't stand being in the same country let alone the same car as the man who killed my father for power. The thought of him being in the car was sickening. I looked in mums direction, my eyes pleading. I wished I had my wolf already so I could mind-link with mum but my wolf will remain dorment till my 18th birthday.

My heart sank as I heard mums voice say, ' of course you can join us.

But before mum could finish speaking, Alpha Jackson suggested placing his hand on her arm, ' how about you jump in the back and have a rest, I can drive the rest of the way, If you like' there was a hint of sincerity in his voice almost like remorse.

Before I could even register what has happened, questioning if this is the same mutt from 18 months ago. Mum accepted his offer and opened her door, to allow the alpha to drive.

Alpha Jackson assisted mum out of the car, and opened the back door, so mum can slide in and relax. I hadn't realised the toll everything has taken on her, first losing dad, losing the pack, and it didn't help that I followed through with dads wishes to attend college 2 months later, I could have left a few months later than planned, but I had to leave, I had to start living my life. Without even thinking about the people I had left behind. Mum looked pail, even more than usual almost sickly. Which was impossible as we cannot get sick. My heart sank as I watched her through the rear view mirror. Apart of me was sorry I left her to face everything alone, I was all she had left in the world and I left her.

Alpha Jackson sliding into the driver's seat pulled me from my thoughts. He put the car into drive and drove us home. I sat there in silence with my head on the window, watching the world flash by in a blur. Somewhere along the way I fell asleep, only waking hours later to a familiar sound of mums laughter. I had almost forgotten what it sounded like.

My eyes flashed open in the direction of the driver's seat, my heart sank alittle when I remembered it wasn't dad driving. I sat there in amusement when it finally dawned on me Alpha Jackson was making mum laugh. I didn't catch what was being said but a part of me was greatful to hear a familiar sound, one I thought I would never hear again.

'Good morning sleepy head' mums voice almost sang. The sound instantly put a smile on my face. 'How did you sleep dear? We will be home in about 40 minutes' mum chimed.

'Mornin mum, that's great, I can't wait to see home again' I answered sleepily.  I had pictured home thousands of times before and now I was returning. I wonder if it is as I remember. I had hoped this mutt hadn't changed anything.

I finally gathered the strength to ask mum 'where do we live now' my voice was shaky nervous. I honestly didn't want to know. I had always wanted to return to my room, but dad was gone and mum was no longer Luna to the pack.

'Oh my dear, Alpha Jackson isn't the barbarian, he seems to be. I thought the same thing after you left, even started packing our things away.

Alpha Jackson has allowed us to stay exactly where we were, with a few exceptions. I am down near your room, now. Other than that everything has remained the same.

Alpha Jackson remained silent as mum, filled me in on our  living arrangements, a small part of me was thankful, even though he had killed my father he still had decorum, he could have kicked us out to the village below. But to allow us to stay in our ancestral home was beyond commendable. I felt a tiny piece of me show respect towards him.

Only a little bit.

Alpha Jackson added 'it didn't feel right, to remove the remainder of your family from the only home you ever had. I maybe an Alpha but I am not completely evil' while staring at the road. 'I didn't want to challenge your father either, I was following advice i was given. One I wished I could take back' he finished while glancing at me.

I hate to say this, but that man was something else.
