What the fuck just happened?

I don’t have time to ponder on that thought before I finally move from where I stand and run to my bike. I remove the keys from my pocket and keep Brynn’s fur scarf around my neck as I start the engine.

I speed down the street, my heart drumming hard in my chest as I keep turning my head sideways in search of the car. They’re long gone and I don’t know how long I was just standing there for so it might be impossible to catch up to them, but I’m not giving up. Not until I’ve searched this entire street.

I get to a dead end, and I make a fast halt, turning the bike around. I bend over to the side and have my knees scraping against the ground before the bike is back on track and I start down another path. I don’t see anything, not a glimpse of the same car I saw earlier. Most of the roads here are empty—perhaps because of the time—while others have very few people walking down and the cars I’ve seen so far aren’t it.
