I have been locked in my room ever since the police and onlookers finally left.

Mum had to go to Vanessa's house to be there for her mum, she asked if I wanted to come but I cowardly said no. I could not endure being in the same place where Vanessa was taken from me, I just could not.

She knocked ever so lightly and whispered through the door like she was scared to break me.

"Damon, are you in there?" she asked, before opening the door and stepping in.

"Yes mum I'm still here, I've not been kidnapped too," I replied, and I immediately knew that I went out of line.

I looked at my mum and she didn't even seem fazed by my comment. She looked tired, even more tired than I might be and then it dawned on me that I have been very selfish ever since.

Mum thought of Vanessa as her daughter too and this whole thing must be extremely hard for her, but here she was, trying to be strong for everyone while she too was in pain.
