Chapter 62 –  Sunny Side Up

(Lexi’s POV)

“Distressing…”

I tapped my temple with the eraser and squinted my eyes, thinking of the word. I looked at the ceiling, biting the ferrule of the pencil as I thought. Sighing, I put the newspaper I was holding as I tried to write my answer in the white squares of the crossword puzzle. “P-I-T-I-F-U-L...”

One corner of my mouth lifted, realizing my answer was wrong. “This is upsetting. L-E-X-I…Pitiful!” I sneered, clucking my tongue and shaking my head. “Starts with a P… eight letters.” My eyes squinted as I racked my brain for a possible answer. “Ends with C.”

“Pathetic,” Finn answered, startling me.

My eyes widened, sure that he was not in the office when I arrived, but I pressed my lips, deciding not to ask how he came in when I remembered his flat because instead of his usual business suit, he was wearing pajamas.

My heart pounded in my chest, seeing him leaning on the doorframe, looking like a print model in a magazine.

“Breakfast?” I asked, standing up but not waiting
