A Deranged Wolf

"M-o-n-s-t-er-" I muttered to myself while tears began falling down my cheeks.

Part of me wanted to run when I could barely dare look at those drops of blood coming out of their bodies and staining the ground after getting punched and slashed by those sharp and elongated claws and fangs.

However, this woman who keeps her grip on my shoulder seems to have no plan to let me go. She helps me and serves as my foundation to support my weakened knees.

So, I close my eyes, thinking about everything that I see will simply disappear once I couldn't see. Yes, I manage to ease off a bit but every time I heard their soft moans and growls, my brain could imagine how the battle is going.

And the thought of imagining things is worse than looking at them fighting because of me. An eighteen years old man with a serious brain issue is fighting against two because he hated the idea when someone wants to be her boyfriend.

"We're werewolves, honey, not monsters. Half human and half wolf." says defensively the woman next to me. "And, truth be told, humans are more monstrous than us. Keep that in mind."

Because my heart and brain could not make it to the finish line, I remove the woman's grip by force and run as fast as I can even without considering where it could lead me.

What matters to me is to be able to get out of the hellhole before I become one of them, monsters, or like Charles - a deranged man.

As I turned my eyes behind me, I felt at ease when no one from those monsters try to follow me; not even Charles or the woman who holds me earlier. And that's a good thing. In that way, I could flee from this island in no time.

So I doubled my steps and turn them into a run to get to the port as soon as possible. My eyes couldn't see the wide blue ocean yet because I am still in the middle of the dense woods.

"Hey, woman?" yells the middle-aged man from the distance behind me. "Are you lost or something?"

I simply ignored him when my topmost priority is to to get the port, board the cruise ship, and head home. So, I focused on the road ahead of me.

"Hey, wait up!" he exclaims.

The last I want to do is talk to anyone on the island. And ignoring him is the least I could do. Out of curiosity, I shortly pointed my other eye on top of my shoulder, leading to the middle-aged man.

I sluggish my steps when I realize the man was already gone behind me. After one second of scanning the entire surrounding, my ears suddenly heard continuous but soft growls coming from behind me.

It is the same weird and horrible sounds that I heard from Charles and Randolph when they turned into notorious dog-like monsters. As I slowly turned my head to the source of the sounds, two glimmering blue eyes landed on mine.

Terror has immediately befallen me when the middle-aged man is already halfway through turning into one of them. He smiles at me. The kind of smile that is inviting me to my deathbed.

His blue eyes were also filled with the urge to devour me alive. "Who could have thought I could meet a pure human on this island?" he uttered as he started lifting his four feet toward me.

My exhausted legs and arms began shaking again. The worst part is that I couldn't move them even if my brain wants to. The only thing I did is drop my butt on the muddy ground.

"If you're heading to the port, you took the wrong way, poor human. But thank you for showing up." he added "the dragons in my stomach have been complaining since I step foot onto this island. Eating your flesh and blood would help them ease off.

Because of extreme worries and fears, I forced my legs to work. I don't care if my hands will not join me with the thought of saving myself from those claws and fangs.

I don't want to die just yet because I still have my dreams in life that I must achieve no matter what. So, I run in the other direction. As I expected, the middle-aged man, no, he's a monster now, is also following me with an ear-to-ear smile on his face.

At first, I thought that I heading in the right direction - to the port this time. However, instead of a port, I ended up in the last part of the island.

"Oops, wrong direction again!" says the man. "Don't exhaust yourself by running away from me, human. You're just wasting your time. Take a look behind you."

Behind me is a cliff. And it was too high when I catch a glimpse of it for two seconds. If I plan to jump into the cliff, there's no way my body could survive after the fall.

As soon as the monster jumped on top of me, I helplessly close my eyes and screamed as loud as the sound of thunder and lightning combined. It is the only thing I could do when all my arms and legs were all numbed.

To my surprise, the middle-aged wolf did not land on me but on the ground, bleeding. He was surrounded by six other wolves. As far as I can see it, I am certain that one of them was Charles.

"Don't you dare lay a hand on my nanny?" Charles growled in a furious tone. That proves my assumption.

"Who are you? And state your business on the island?" the one asking questions sounded like Randolph.

The six wolves then shifted back to their human forms while surrounding the wounded man without hesitation that a female human is with them.

"I am here to deliver a message to the Bridgerton." says the middle-aged man. He keeps on shooing Charles and everyone with his continuous growls.

But he was outnumbered if he realizes that.

"A message from who?" Randolph asked back.

"As if I will tell you from whom." insists the middle-aged man. "You all may kill me, but that couldn't stop their plan on taking their revenge on the Bridgerton."

To my surprise, sounds of the cracking bones echoed in my ears when Randolph twirled the man's head at a three-sixty degrees angle.

"What's the point of talking too much when you wouldn't tell us who, old man," he uttered before he dropped the man's head to the ground.

The head crawled toward my spot with his eyes straightly looking at me. How can they do such a cruel thing to an old man? Randolph killed him. And no one dares stop him from doing it, not even Charles.

"He's a rogue. But what did my parents do to them this time?" Charles uttered in a furious tone.

"We're not sure yet, Charles." says the woman who holds my hand earlier. "But we should not hide this incident from your parents either."

"Better bring your nanny back to the mansion, Charles. We'll secure the perimeter first if he had anyone with him." those were Randolph's last pieces of advice before I finally let go of my body and decided to fall into the cliff.

For me, it is better to take the risk of zero survival chances after the fall rather than involve myself in the Bridgerton family - a monstrous family of wolves.

But before I could feel my body touching the ground, someone's hands were holding mine. When I take a look at it, it was Charles, lying on the rough and rocky surface on the edge of the cliff.

I can see his broad chest ejecting blood because of the rough surface while holding my hands still. "Please, don't let go of my hand," Charles uttered with the tears in his eyes began pouring toward my face.

That is the Charles Bridgerton with a severe brain issue talking to me. I can see it in his eyes. "Please, let go of me, Charles. I don't want to be your nanny anymore. You're all monsters."

Upon hearing those words coming from me, Charles' expression suddenly changed. It saddens him to the point that he looked me in the eye with utter guilt and dismay before he let go of my hand.
