Chapter 17 (Dire)

Lyra's POV

"We agreed to meet his family the next weekend, and he made it clear there were certain things I should avoid mentioning to them. I understood, but at some point, it all felt excessive.

"So, you want me to tell them my parents are living in another country?" I asked incredulously.

"Yes, and that they're quite wealthy, but you've chosen to come here to start your own business," he replied.

"George, isn't that a bit much?" I questioned.

"No, trust me, my mother expects nothing less. Let's just get it over with," he insisted.

"Okay," I consented.

I couldn't comprehend why I had to fabricate details for my future mother-in-law, but my love for George outweighed any reservations.

Two days later, Sean informed me that his mother had called and I could resume work at the port.

I relayed the news to George, who reluctantly agreed. The following day, I dressed in black leather pants and a blue top, accessorized with matching canvas shoes and a crossbody bag, ready for the job.
