Chapter 3: Betrayal

Sophia is currently driving her car to her in-law's house. They were always curious about what was happening between her and Caden's relationship.

Caden's grandmother was hoping that she would be pregnant in the first year of their marriage. But three years have passed and there was still no news from them.

She received a lot of pressure, but she would always assure them that they were just taking it slow. Hiding everything that was happening on the sideline.

When she arrived she was greeted by a lot of maidservants and was escorted by the butler to where Caden's family were waiting.

She put on a brave face when she finally caught sight of them and greeted everyone with a warm smile.

"Sophia dear, come sit." Caden's grandma greeted her, and kissed her on the cheek. They all exchanged pleasantries until they had finally settled.

They engaged in polite conversations, and Sophia skillfully deflected any inquiries about her relationship with Caden.

Deep down, she was grappling with her emotions, unsure of how much longer she could keep up the facade.

But she knew better than to tell them the truth. It would cause Caden trouble, which means she would also be implicated on the matter.

"Where is Caden anyway? Why did you drive here alone?" Caden's mother, Stella, asked. She always had a feeling that something odd was going on between the two of them.

But she just shook off the feeling since every time Sophia visited them or when they asked Caden, they would always receive the same response that everything was going well.

"He had something to do so he couldn't come."

"Is that so? I thought I told that boy that family should always come first. Next time I see him I'll surely scold him." Caden's father, Adam, said grumpily.

"No, please don't. He's working hard for the both of us. And he isn't doing anything wrong." Sophia quickly defended Caden from his father and tried everything she could do to reason him out from his father's anger.

Adam looked at her with pity, sensing already that she was lying. He was a keen and observant man, so he knows when someone is lying. But he understood why Sophia would do it.

"Sigh, fine. Just let him know when you see him that I would like to talk to him." He said, dropping the topic. And Sophia can again breathe comfortably. Relieved that Caden was let off the hook.

(Three hours later)

After spending a couple of hours with Caden's family, Sophia finally made her way back to her car.

As she settled into the driver's seat, she immediately started the engine and drove off.

Half an hour later, while she was driving on the highway, her phone suddenly rang, she picked up the phone and saw that it was Caden calling her.

She was happy that he called him, since she's the one who usually initiates a conversation or call, but her happiness was only short-lived when she heard the noise that was coming from the other end of the line.

"UGHHH!!! Caden, faster!" A woman lewdly yelled, and she could hear some rocking noises in the background.

"Shut it. Stop moaning damn it!" She heard Caden curse.

She couldn't speak, her mind was instantly filled with terrible things that Caden was doing right now.

Her eyes started tearing up, her mouth and hands shaking.

"Ca–Caden?" She called with a trembling voice, a couple seconds after she then heard curses from the other end.

"What the… Fuck! What the hell did you do woman?!" She heard Caden curse.

'Why did you do this again Caden? Why?...' Sophia gripped her phone hard, crying her heart out.

Out of nowhere, a loud screeching sound made its way to her ears.

Since she was too preoccupied, she didn't notice a truck that was coming from the other direction.

She slowly tilted her head and saw a huge truck coming her way.

Sophia's heart raced as she tried to regain control of the car, her vision started getting hazy because of the tears that were pooling in her eyes, and her hands trembled on the steering wheel.

Panic surged through her veins as she desperately swerved to avoid the oncoming truck, her tires screeching.

Time seemed to slow down as the truck loomed closer, its blaring horn piercing the air. Sophia's mind raced, her instincts kicking in as she tried to save herself against the impending collision.

But it was too late.

The impact was inevitable. She could only close her teary eyes and waited for what's about to come, accepting her fate.

Eventually the two vehicles crashed together causing Sophia's vehicle to lose control, spinning wildly as the metal scraped and screeched against the sheer force of the collision

The sound of crunching metal and shattering glass echoed through the air.

Inside the car, Sophia was jolted violently, her body thrown about like a ragdoll. The force of the collision tossed her frail body against the seatbelt, causing her to lurch from one side to the other. The world around her was spinning in a disorienting blur.

And after what seemed like an eternity, the car finally came to a devastating halt, smoke billowing from the wreckage.

The air became thick from the smoke coming out of Sophia's crushed car. Her body throbbed with pain, blood oozing from her head, her limbs were trapped beneath the mangled metal, and her vision was flickering in and out as she desperately fought to remain conscious in the midst of the chaos.

Passerbys started rushing forward, their faces etched with shock and horror. Emergency sirens wailed in the distance as help raced towards the wreckage. The sound of urgent voices filled the air, and Sophia couldn't hear all of them clearly, there was too much buzzing in her ears.

Before she lost consciousness she felt the phone in her hands vibrate and a voice filled with concern filled her ears.

"Sophia? What's happening, talk to me! Are you there?! Sophia!" She heard his frantic voice and smiled sadly.

'Caden… Now I know, you will never love me in this life, love can never be forced.' It was the last thing she thought before finally closing her eyes and entering the endless abyss of darkness.
