Chapter 17: I stand before the council

Selene's Pov.

“Selene!!!” Ansari's voice echoed through the room.

I rose to my feet, my heart beating as fast as was biologically possible. Goddess help me, what was I going to say?

I could feel the eyes of the crowd on my back. The urge to turn was almost irresistible but the Ansari woman held me with her gaze.

She was a striking-looking woman, especially for someone her age. Her silver hair shone on her head like a magnificent crown, her eyes green embers of wildfire. Her skin was still surprisingly taunt and she was the prettiest person there.

But her looks were secondary to me, I could feel her boring into me, searching through my soul in a way that reminded me of the succubus.
