Chapter 20. Blaze

BLAZE

As I stood in the hospital ward, the pungent smell of disinfectants filled my nostrils. The fluorescent lights hummed overhead, casting an eerie glow across the sterile walls and linoleum floors. I could feel my stomach churn as I tried my best to ignore the overpowering scent that seemed to linger around every corner.

I had rushed Caramel here, after she fainted and slipped on the floor. I can't say I was happy to be here, but it was the right thing to do. Now, as I stood beside her bed, waiting for her to regain consciousness, my eyes scanned the room and I remembered when I was also brought to the hospital for my wound. I couldn’t stay here any longer, that’s why I left.

I glanced over at Caramel; her face was still pale and unmoving beneath the white sheets.

I didn't particularly like being here, but seeing Caramel in this state made me feel responsible for her well-being.
