CHAPTER 39: THE AUTHOR OF CONFUSION

KATIE’S POV

Axel's girlfriend did come as she promised. I thought she would take just Axel, as Lily had done, but she surprised me by asking me to follow them.

Well, that solved the problem of who would come to bail me out.

I was glad to breathe the clean air of the evening as we were let out of the station. Never again, I told myself, will I go in there for whatever reason. Even if it meant running away when the police came for an 'interview,’ I would do so without breaking a sweat.

The drive back to the mansion was silent. Well, she had music playing softly from the speaker like she was attempting to ease the tension, but that did not qualify as something to break the ice. She didn't even say a word to Axel, and my eyes darted between them, confused.

Were they arguing?
