CHAPTER XI.

For this moment, I felt like Cinderella, so frightened by everything that was happening, the fact that I was shamelessly caught in my lie. After breakfast, I had made up a silly excuse to rush out of that house, and now I was with my friend Rachel, her brother, and a friend.

"What are you going to do now?" Rachel said more than angrily, giving me a smack on the arm. "This is madness!" she complained, taking a sip of her tequila.

"So... Was it just a fling?" Benjamin wanted to know. "How long do you plan on being Jayden's bed warmer?" Benjamin exclaimed, looking at me with a mixture of anger and disappointment.

"Don't push it, Benjamin!" Lucia interjected, glaring at him.

"I... we just..." I started, but what was I going to say? Just what? How could I explain that? "We... We made a mistake. It's been a mistake."

"The man who makes a mistake and doesn't correct it makes an even bigger mistake. That was my mom's favorite saying... but for this occasion, it's almost perfect," Lucia murmur
