Chapter 6

Daliah, who cursed Eden the most viciously, looked at Catherine in shock.

“Grandma, are you alright? Eden’s the one who’s spouting nonsense and upsetting Alain. You want us to apologize to her?” Daliah’s tone was filled with agitation.

Catherine gave her a sharp look as she gritted her teeth. In a cold voice, she said, “I’m telling all of you to apologize. Right now!”

“I...” Daliah wanted to rebuke, but Edison stopped her.

In the end, because of the pressure from Catherine, everyone who cursed at Eden had to apologize, including Melinda.

She really felt embarrassed for having to apologize to her own daughter whom she had abandoned, but she couldn’t go against Catherine.

After apologizing, Catherine then looked at Alain with a smile and said, “These young ones are much too rowdy these days. Please forgive them for their insolence, Alain.”

Alain took out a cigarette and lit it up. The lips under the mask puffed out smoke as his eyes turned toward Eden. “Will you accept their apology?”

When Eden heard him, she raised her eyebrow and revealed a malicious smile. “Nope.”

“You hear that?” Alain leaned a little toward Catherine with his arm on the chair, looking at her languidly.

Catherine cursed at Eden deep down for being unable to read the scene but didn’t dare to say anything in front of Alain. She had no choice but to lower her pride and asked, “What must they do before you’ll accept their apology?”

Eden put her arm on the table with her hand under her chin, narrowing her eyes. She thought about it long and hard before saying placidly, “Maybe... sew their mouths shut?”

Despite her smile, her words sent chills down their spines.

No one would have thought that a young nineteen-year-old woman would be so brutal.

They had yelled at her, yes, but she wanted to have their mouths sewn shut?

“Eden, how dare...” Daliah was so angry that she wanted to slap her.

But the moment she opened her mouth, someone shut her up.

If the Hunt family still hadn’t realized that Alain was helping Eden, then they were truly not the brightest of the bunch.

But still Daliah wanted to curse at Eden without a care in the world... She was definitely going to end up in a ditch somewhere one day.

Catherine took a deep breath and looked at Eden with her old, glassy eyes. She bit her lips for a while before saying, “They are wrong and shouldn’t have cursed at you like that. But this punishment... Doesn’t fit the crime. Please spare them. Allow these old bones to apologize on their behalf.”

Despite saying that, Catherine didn’t act like she was apologizing at all.

Eden raised her chin, her fingers tapping on the table rhythmically. She then said indifferently, “It can’t be done, huh?”

Catherine’s hands tightened, and something flashed in her eyes.

Despite putting herself in such a low position, Eden couldn’t be dissuaded at all.

Catherine lifted her head and looked at Alain. Seeing that he had nothing to say, she had no choice but to bow and apologize once again. “I’m sorry. Please forgive them.”

Eden still had her hand under her chin, her eyes lowered and ignoring Catherine.

The entire atmosphere was quite awkward.

Alain snuffed the cigarette out and poured a glass of water for Eden. “We live in a society with laws. Why don’t you change your punishment?”

His voice was very attractive for a man. A little raspy, with a hint of maturity. It sounded somewhat cold and distant, but there was a tinge of warmth in it when he was speaking to Eden.

Eden raised her eyes. The hand that extended toward her was slightly pale. When he handed her the glass of water, he accidentally touched her hand. It was very warm.

She gave it an earnest thought and finally said, “You’re right. Maybe... Slap themselves ten times?”

“That’s pretty good.” While no one could see what Alain’s reaction was under his mask, Jasmine could see Alain’s smile.

Catherine glared at Eden coldly as she almost ground her teeth. She cursed Eden deep down without showing it on her face before saying, “Didn’t you hear that? Why aren’t you all doing it then?”

The members of the Hunt family were filled with hatred, but they didn’t dare go against Catherine’s wishes. Not to mention that Alain was still around. If Alain were the one to make the move, their luck would truly run out.

In the end, everyone slapped themselves about a dozen times.

Jasmine looked at everyone being in such a sorry state with her fists tightened as she bit her lips. A trace of frostiness flashed through her eyes.

Why? Just what did a peasant girl like Eden have to be able to make Alain stand up for her?

All of this was supposed to be hers.

She couldn’t allow a man she didn’t want to fight for a peasant girl who couldn’t be compared to her.

With that thought in mind, Jasmine suddenly stood up as if she had made a big decision. “Alain, I’ll marry you. I’ll be eighteen in half a year. It won’t affect our engagement.”

As soon as she said that, everyone in the Hunt family glared at her. Melinda was so shocked that she didn’t know what hit her.

Only after a long time, she stuttered, “Jas, are you mad? How can you...”

However, she quickly stopped as she remembered that Alain was still there.

“Grandma, Dad, Mom... I can’t let an outsider bully you like this,” Jasmine bit her lips as if she was a gentle damsel.

Everyone from the Hunt family was touched, but nobody knew that she just didn’t want to be one-upped by Eden.

They were so touched that they were tearing up, but Alain’s and Eden’s expressions didn’t even change as they maintained the same posture.

Horace glanced at Alain before slamming the table. “Who do you think Alain is? A piece of trash? That you can do whatever you want with him? No one in Rielton even dares to do what you’re doing right now! Just who do you think you are?”

“But Jasmine was the one who was supposed to marry Alain.” Catherine was a very realistic woman. Just with her being able to manage the Hunt family for so many years, she was not as simple as she seemed to be.

Earlier, she said that she didn’t want Jasmine to marry Alain because Jasmine didn’t want to, and she also had her own reasons.

But she was angered by how Eden was treating the Hunt family.

Ultimately, Eden had never lived with the Hunt family. She was born with a spirit of independence and would never accept a proper education. If someone like that were able to become part of the Ward family, not only would Catherine be unable to control her, but it would also bring more harm than good at the end of the day.

If Jasmine was willing to marry Alain, that would be the best outcome for the Hunt family.

“Madam Catherine,” Alain suddenly stood up, the light making his shadow grow long as it shone on him. He slowly walked over to Catherine with a domineering aura around him. “I think Eden’s quite good. What do you think?”

There was a certain rigidness and a glint in his eyes. His voice was cold, like icicles stabbing into her bones.

When Catherine looked up, she was scared by the mask drawn with complex and ferocious patterns. She almost fell from losing her footing.

She immediately understood what Alain meant as she shuddered and said, “True, I think she’s quite good as well.”

Alain withdrew his gaze and put his hands in his pockets. He stood up straight and looked around, then said in a calm manner, “Caelus.”

The door to the private room was immediately pushed open. Caelus and several bodyguards wearing suits came in after having waited outside for a long time with several briefcases in their hands and placed them on the table.

“This is Master Alain’s gift for marriage,” Caelus said as he opened the briefcase with a serious expression on his face. “One hundred million dollars.”

Catherine’s heart skipped a beat, her throat a little dry. “Isn’t it supposed to only be fifty million dollars?”

“Consider the extra fifty million dollars a gift. Master Alain is very happy with Ms. Eden.”

The Hunt family finally understood that there was even an engagement banquet because he came for Eden.

He had already known that they wanted to replace Jasmine with Eden before he came.

Perhaps, the reason he gave the one hundred million dollars wasn’t because he wanted Eden. Perhaps it was because he simply wanted them to regret their decision.

While the Hunt family was still stunned, Alain walked over to Eden and said, “I believe relationships need to be built. What do you think?”

Eden’s lips formed a thuggish smile. “Fine by me.”

“Move into Skygarden tomorrow, then,” Alain responded and left together with Horace, Caelus and his people.

The members of the Hunt family all looked at each other with mixed feelings.

The dishes on the table had all turned cold. No one had even touched them.
