Chapter 7

Without Alain around, everyone from the Hunt family glared at Eden angrily.

Especially Melinda, who stomped toward her like a madwoman. “You piece of trash! I brought you and your grandmother here from so far away not to go against me! If I don’t teach you a lesson right now, you’ll never know just how dangerous the real world is!”

Melinda raised her hand and wanted to slap Eden, but before she could even swing her hand, Eden grabbed her hand.

She raised an eyebrow, coldness in her eyes and her voice. “Take your hand back or I’ll snap it in half.”

“Why you...!” Melinda spluttered as she clutched her chest, her face becoming paler. “You must think very highly of yourself! Let’s see how you are going to get your dying grandmother treatment without the Hunt family!”

Eden let out an icy scoff. “Whatever!”

Did they really think they could use her grandmother against her?

If she didn’t come willingly, who could force her to come to Estburg?

Four hundred thousand dollars a month... Was that a lot?

There were countless people out there who would shower her with money, and all it would take was a green light from her.

Eden couldn’t care less about the Hunt family. Just as she was about to leave, the door suddenly swung open once more.

Alain, who had left earlier, was back.

The members of the Hunt family were all stunned, and they quickly simmered down. Melinda, who was pointing at Eden, could only swallow all the words she was going to throw at Eden.

Alain gave the Hunts a brief glance and quickly walked over to Eden, a beautiful box in his hand. He then gave it to Eden as if no one was around. “I forgot about this just now. A gift for you.”

Eden raised her eyebrow and accepted the gift, opening it.

When the Hunts saw it, they quietly jeered at her.

A peasant girl was still a peasant girl after all. She didn’t even know that she had to be reserved when receiving a gift, she shouldn’t open it in front of everyone.

But when they saw what was inside the box, they all let out a gasp.

One of them couldn’t stop herself and gasped, “Is... Is this the Crystal Devotion?”

Someone nearby immediately confirmed her guess. “Good gods! It really is the Crystal Devotion! That’s a necklace designed by the famous designer DKL... There’s only one in the world!”

“I heard that someone bought it from an auction for two billion dollars two years ago. No one knew who bought it. It was you, Alain?”

One of them said enviously, “To think he would give something so precious to a peasant girl... What a waste!”

Jasmine’s face turned dark when she heard their discussion; she was green with envy.

There was a stuffy feeling in her chest, as if something was beating on it.

The necklace that was priceless and one of a kind... It was supposed to be hers.

She practically handed this opportunity to Eden.

Her fingers were curled up tightly, and she almost tore the skin of her lips biting on them. She could hear her heart tearing itself apart.

Even if Alain was disfigured... Even if he could only live for two years...

As long as she was his wife, she could have taken a share of his inheritance. Even if it was only ten percent, it would be enough to last her forever.

Not to mention that the Ward family didn’t mention that she couldn’t remarry after Alain’s death. After a few years, she could choose to once again marry someone else.

But...

Jasmine lowered her head. She didn’t want to look at the necklace. The more she looked at it, the worse she felt.

Meanwhile, the subject of the Hunt family’s envies simply glanced at the necklace before closing the box. Eden looked at Alain calmly with her steely eyes. “Do you want something back?”

All of the Hunt family members almost choked when they saw how calm she was.

Did she even know what she was holding in her hand?

Even if she didn’t, they were discussing it so loudly just now. She must have heard them, right?

How could she be so calm?

Alain had been scanning Eden’s facial expression since she received the box from him, but she didn’t react in any way.

Was it because she didn’t know how precious the necklace was? Or she didn’t care about how valuable it was at all?

As he pondered upon the reason, an extremely faint smile formed on his cold lips. How interesting.

“Yes, as per etiquette.” Alain looked at Eden. “But if you didn’t prepare anything, it’s not necessary.”

“I see.” Eden stroked her chin. After thinking for a bit, she realized she didn’t have much to give him as a gift.

After thinking about it long and hard, Eden took out a very small ceramic bottle from inside her pocket. She then tipped the bottle, and something that looked like a brown-colored tablet rolled out. “You can have this, then.”

She was being quite a cheapskate by giving him only one.

Alain looked at the tablet. He didn’t know what it was for, and the edge of his lips couldn’t help but twitch.

This really was...

Seeing that he didn’t want to take it, Eden raised an eyebrow. “You don’t want it?”

Alain coughed and picked up the thing in her hand. “I’ll take it.”

“Whatever I give to someone is worth something,” Eden said as she placed her hands back into her pocket. “Don’t judge it by its size. It is quite valuable.”

Eden gave it a thought and then said in a serious tone, “It’s worth more than your necklace.”

From the moment Eden gave Alain that small nameless tablet, the entire Hunt family was already stunned.

They didn’t react in any way as they stood there.

Even Edmund, who had been quite compassionate toward Eden, was somewhat stunned as well.

Eden...

If she hadn’t prepared anything for Alain, they could have prepared it for her. But she instead gave that nameless tablet to him as a gift...

Did she even know what she was doing?

“Eden!” Melinda couldn’t stand it anymore and roared after she had recovered from her surprise. “Just how badly do you want to disgrace me? How can you give Alain something like that as a gift...”

And just what the hell was that thing anyway?!

Melinda felt that she was already on the verge of a mental breakdown as she was at a loss for words.

Daliah had a seething hatred for Eden, and she couldn’t help but sneer, “You’re so...”

But she didn’t even finish her sentence with the word “senseless” as Daliah saw Alain’s cold frown and stopped in time.

And so, she changed what she wanted to say. “Do you even know the worth of this necklace?”

Eden gave her a calm glance. “Didn’t you say two billion dollars just now?”

“If you already know it costs two billion dollars, why did you give him this? Is this thing worth two billion dollars? Eden, our family can afford to prepare a gift, so why are you giving him something as worthless as this?” Daliah said with glee.

It would be for the best if this lowly gesture had upset Alain enough to forgo his marriage with Eden.

Without him, she had nothing to be arrogant about!

Catherine was also quite incensed, but she suppressed her anger and lowered her head, saying, “My apologies. She comes from the countryside and doesn’t know proper etiquette. The Hunt family will prepare a proper gift.”

This was negligence on her part. She assumed that Alain wouldn’t care about a marriage like this and that he would never present Eden with a gift. That was why she didn’t have anything prepared.

And this was truly a disgrace.

However, Eden didn’t care about what they said and simply looked at Alain indifferently. “You can give it back if you don’t want it.”

“Why?” Alain became even more interested in Eden. He was even smiling when he asked, “What is this?”

“Something that can save lives,” Eden said as she lifted her gaze, staring right at Alain.
