Chapter 11 . Polygraph

Ella sat down on the bench and stared at the two officers. She couldn't believe that they were treating her as a criminal.

A woman barged through the doors and immediately Ella recognised her mother.

"Where is she?" Mrs Ray said frantically.

"Sorry miss. But who are you looking for?" Officer Simon's asked leading her to a chair.

"My daughter. Summer Ray." She replied.

Her eyes met Ella's and she immediately rushed to the jail cell.

"My poor baby."

Ella held a confused expression. Her heart hurt and she knew this would hurt her mother but she did it anyway.

" Mrs Ray?" Ella asked.

"Mrs Ray? What's wrong with you Summer? Do you have amnesia?"

" I have heard so much about you from my dad. You look the same as you did ten years ago. I saw a picture." Ella replied innocently.

Mrs Ray took a closer look at Ella. " Who are you?"

" I am Ella Woods. Mr Ray's adopted daughter." Ella replied. She knew the words cut through her mother's heart but this was her identity now.

" Patrick's daughter? He never mentioned anything about you." Mrs Ray blinked away her tears. " It's remarkable. You look so similar to Summer, yet so different."

" Please can you call my dad. These people here had me in here since last night." Ella asked politely.

"Mrs Ray. This isn't your daughter?" Officer Simon's asked curiously.

" Well. She is but she isn't. I mean she says she is my ex husband's daughter so technically she could be mine but she isn't Summer. They look alike but is also different." Mrs Ray replied.

"So you aren't sure?" Officer Simon's lifted an eyebrow. " That's all we need to know. Thank you for your time."

Officer Simon's walked her to the door. After a brief chat he came back to the cell. " Looks like you will be in here a few days until we figure out if your lying or telling the truth.

" I am not lying." Ella shouted. She dreaded spending another day with these foul smelling people.

A few hours later a man with a large suitcase entered the police station.

"Mr Luke. Here for the polygraph test that was ordered."

Ella knew he was here for her. He looked directly into her eyes and winked. She did not know what to think but it looked like he was friend. She couldn't help but stare. His face looked familiar as if she had seen him before. She dug deep into her mind trying to remember until it dawned on her. It was the driver that had taken her to the airport.

" Good lord. This man must really think I am a filthy person. First she saw me in my dirty prom dress and now in a jail cell." Ella thought slapping her palm onto her forehead.

"Miss Woods or should I say Miss Ray. Please join us in the interrogation room." Officer Simon's opened the gate for her and placed her in a set of hand cuffs. " Can't be too sure."

Ella took a seat opposite the polygrapher .

"Miss Woods. I will ask you a series of questions before I hand you over to officer Simon's. This is just to differentiate between what is true or a lie. Once I calibrate the machine the real questions will begin." Mr Luke winked again.

Ella nodded.

He walked around the table and attached electrodes to her temples and devices to her hands," this is to monitor your responses."

"Let's begin."

Ella nodded.

"Please state your full name." Mr Luke asked

"Ella Woods." Ella replied. Her hands felt sweaty and her throat was dry. Although she knew the polygraph test was rigged in her favour, she still felt a tinge of guilt when her mother left.

"Where do you live?" My Luke asked.

"Palm beach." Ella replied. She could not help but wonder how the driver was now a polygrapher.

" How old are you?" Mr Luke asked .

"Eighteen." Ella replied. She knew this was probably the work of her father and soon enough she would be out of this hell hole.

" Is your father Mr Patrick Ray?" Mr Luke asked.

"Yes." Ella fought the urge to reply with the phrase "Duh."

Mr Luke closed the file on the desk." All set officer Simon's. You can go ahead."

"So Miss Woods. Is this your real name?" Officer Simon's asked sarcastically.

"Yes." Ella replied. She had watched enough movies to know that all she was going to answer was yes or no. She was not going to justify her answers or give too much. The man in front of her was an idiot and he deserved to be treated like one. She would see to his demotion later on but right now she needed to just focus on getting out of this hell house and back on track with her plan.

" Is Mrs Ray your mother." Officer Simon's asked.

He had hit a nerve and Ella drew in a breath," no."

" Do you know Bobby Styles?" Officer Luke asked.

"No." Once upon a time Summer did know a Bobby Styles. He was the love of her life but now she was Ella Woods.

"Do you know Brook Wilds?" Officer Simon's asked. He knew he could catch her out on this one since he read the report from yesterday's events .

"Yes. She is the b**** that got me here." Ella could not help but burst his bubble. She could see right through him. His intentions were clear and she wondered why all these officer's were being such idiots.

" Do you know Summer Ray?" Officer Simon's looked disappointed.

"No." Ella replied confidently. How can the new Ella Woods know her former self. She had killed all good memories from her past. It was just the betrayal that stabbed at her heart now.

" Are you and imposter?"
