Chapter 4

*Two months after*

Marshall's POV

After stopping several of Jessica's applications, I went back to report to boss like I always did but even I am getting guilty

" Sir, she's applied for about 20 jobs in the last two months, you should pity her and stop, at least. She's been looking unhealthy and sick" I pleaded with my boss. He was still going through his phone like he didn't hear me. " Sir jessi-"

" Did you make them reject everything?" he asked. I bowed and answered in a low voice, " yes sir"

"That's all I need to know, you're dismissed".

" Sir, there's also something else, someone has been following her since I started following her. I thought it was just my thinking but someone else is spying on her, do you want me to investigate?"

" No, it's none of our business. Out!" He said and I rushed out. This was getting out of hand already. I'm tired of following some young folk around like an unnoticed bodyguard, and besides, she really looks unhealthy. I checked the tracker and she was up to another restaurant. She prolly couldn't go to a company because she didn't have enough education, but she did, maybe she didn't want anyone to know. For someone who went to the most expensive high school, this is a complete irony. I drove out to where she was and it looked like she was waiting inside. Or was she here to eat? I doubt that. I decided to drive down the road and come back later since she was still there.

I was driving past her house when I saw a man enter the exact door she used to come out from. He was the guy I always saw anytime I was spying on her. I parked my car and watched what was going to happen. At thesame time, I kept on checking the tracker and she was still inside the restaurant.

I waited and kept watch till it was dark, around 8pm. None of them had come back. I started getting worried. I shouldn't though. Should I go and check on her at the restaurant or should I wait for this guy to come out from her apartment? I waited a little longer before I decided to drive back to Jessica. As I was about to drive away, I saw the guy come out from her apartment in a haste. What followed was exceptionally  unexpected.

Like a dam had just broken, " BOOM!!". It was a fire blast and it came out from Jessica's apartment. Blowing off the glasses in the window and slightly moving my car backwards. I couldn't believe my eyes. I got out of the car and attempted to enter to see if anyone was in the house next door and if they weren't affected by the fire. Luckily, I saw a mother and two of her children in shock and I helped them out of the house. The woman kept crying, saying there's someone inside.

" Please help, call 911, call the firefighters…Jessica…my Jessica, please help me.." she kept on crying. Is it possible for Jessica to leave her bag in the bar and be at home, maybe that's why her location hadn't changed from being in the restaurant.

I quickly called 911

" Hello, I'm calling from the 5th or 6th house from. Big Ben. There's fire, there's fire in an apartment here. Please make it quick" I rushed and say.

" We'll be there shortly"

"I called, they'll be here shortly to put the fire off. Don't worry. Your Jessica isn't there" I reassured the woman who was really terrified and sober. In minutes, people came around and the water truck came around with the firefighters. They quickly started putting the fire out, ensuring people were safe. I went to check the tracker. Turns out she already left the restaurant and was on her way home.

" Shit"

Jessica's POV.

After waiting and waiting, the restaurant closed on me. They should have just said they weren't ready to attend to me. I sluggishly stood up and left. I walked slowly and the sadness in me had reached the brim. I guess there's nothing more I can do now. Maybe I should just become a maid somewhere. Even those might not give me work. My life is a definition of failure. I don't think I have any achievements left. I probably never had any. As I approached my home, I saw evidence of something burning. In this neighborhood, people should be more careful with using fire in their house. At least, I'm not the only unlucky one today, I smiled as I thought about whoever's house caught fire. As I got closer, I saw people and firefighters and what seemed to be Mia and her kids.

I paused

It's a dyllution, it can't be my house. I slapped my face hard. Trying to bring it back to reality. My eyes widened. " Bloody hell!!! It's my fucking house" I screamed as I ran over to my house. Tears ran through the side of my cheeks as I ran. Why am I this unlucky. Why!!

I soon got there and I was dreaming. My house was on fire. I watched the flames in silence and stood numb. I saw Mia run to me, hugging me but the sounds I heard faded away with time. I couldn't hear anything. It was as if I was in another dimension. I am already crazy. I stared at the fire, it seemed beautiful. I watched as my life burnt in flames and all I could do was smile. I crashed on the floor, still watching the fire. It's beautifully burning. Like me. A beautiful mess.  Maybe I should have burnt with it.. everything went blurry and dark. Complete silence.
