I knocked on mother's door, preparing my sorry speech. My conscience judged me for the way I spoke to her the other day. I knocked again--no reply. 

I pushed the door and let myself in. "Mom?" I called out to her, scanning her room that was painted in purple. 

The white sheets were rumpled and her phone laid plainly on the bed. I glanced at the bathroom door and decided to check there. Slowly, I twisted the door knob and pushed it open. 

"Mom, what's wrong?" I asked my mother who was sitting on a little black round thing in the bathroom. It looked like a chair without arms. Her head was in her right hand.
