“Did Valarie care to mention what the Alpha wants?” Ophelia asked, crossing her hands behind her back.

“I don’t know,” Noah said. His answer was too blunt for Ophelia to like.

“Hard to believe that she keeps secrets from you,” Ophelia said. Her voice meant to irritate him but it failed.

“Secrets?” Noah scoffed a laugh. “You ought to know once we arrive anyway. So what’s the rush for?”

Ophelia hummed as she gave his question some thought. There was just something unsettling in her stomach. A bad feeling that something is going to happen. Something she won’t like.

“I don’t know,” she muttered. “Just an unsettling feeling perhaps.”

Noah took a moment to read the worry on her face and hoped it would be nothing. He held out his hand to place it reassuringly on hers.
