CHAPTER 4

Sofiya’s Pov.

A loud cry escaped from my throat, but before I came crashing to the ground, Micheal swiftly caught me and pulled me close, so that my body hit against his hard chest.

“You ought to be more careful, pumpkin,” he said huskily while tucking my hair behind my ears.

I nodded avoiding his eyes, I could already feel the heat creeping into my cheek.

“Promise me you are going to be more careful, pumpkin,” He added, gliding his hands on my cheeks.

A throat cleared interrupting us, “If you had informed me earlier that I was going to watch a scene out of a Kdrama, I would have come prepared and brought some popcorn,” The middle-aged woman responded.

“Sorry Mom, Sofiya can be a bit clumsy,” he said.

“Hmmm.., how come you have been hiding her from me all this time,” she asked observing me.

“I wanted to keep it private Mom but since you have been pestering me, I had no choice but to officially introduce the both of you,”

“_Let go to the dinner table, the chefs had prepared something special for this occasion,” Michael added.

I tried walking but my leg hurt, so I grabbed Michael’s arm for support.

“Easy there, pumpkin.” His voice was deep and low, his only focus was on me.

“I think I twisted my ankle,” I winced in pain.

With another word, he carried him into his strong arms and laid me on the couch. I protested when he tried to remove my heels but I gave up when I saw that he would not take No for an answer. He placed my legs on his lap and began massaging them. I wanted to disappear into thin air. They probably going to think I am always this clumsy.

“Is she human?” The mom voiced out, breaking the silence.

Oh great, not only does she think I’m clumsy but now a weak creature. Way to go, Sofiya, such an epic way to create a first impression.

“Yes,” Michael answered flatly.

“Hmmm….is she aware of what you are?”

“Yeah,”

“She must be a brave human then, most I know would have fainted and run for their dear lives never to see you again,”

Michael gave me a knowing look, “She took it like a champ,” and winked at me, “Right sofiya?”

“Yes,” I blushed.

When Michael was done massaging my legs, we went to the dinner table, Michael’s mom kept asking me questions about her son and my personal life and I answered according to the script.

After Dinner, Michael’s mom broke the silence “Sofiya, please excuse us. I would like to have a word with my son,” she said dropping her napkin on the table.

I looked over at Michael wondering if I had said anything to offend her but he nodded signaling for me to leave.

I got up from the table and decided to explore the house but something compelled me to stay behind and eavesdrop on their conversation. So I hide in a safe corner to listen to them.

“I don’t like that she is a human girl, you should have chosen someone of our kind,” His mom said.

“Mom, would you rather I stay single ?” Micheal asked.

“That’s not what I’m trying to say, I just don’t think she will be able to lift the curse,”

“I’m getting married to her regardless, so stop finding new things to worry about,” he replied.

She sighed, “I just want what’s best for you,”

“I know,” he replied and then walked her to her car.

I quickly left my hiding place and went to explore the rest of the mansion, when my eyes caught sight of a beautiful flower vase, I picked it up and was inspecting its beauty when it slipped from my hands.

Before the vase made contact with the ground, Michael who I had not noticed was in the room swiftly caught it with such supernatural speed.

“Don’t touch anything in this house again,” he warned, carefully returning the vase to its place, “This antique cost a fortune and I will not want to lose it due to your carelessness,”

“I’m sorry,”

“Here,” Michael said stretching an envelope in my direction.

“What’s that?”

“For your performance tonight,” he replied.

“Thank but I would not be needing it,”

“Sofiya don’t try to act humble with me, I am aware that you are in huge debt and need of money, so take it. After all the reason you wanted to marry me is because of my wealth,” He replied coldly.

I opened my mouth to speak but he shut me off, “Look Sofiya. We both to know what we want, and let’s stick with it. No need to act all saintly,” he said, dropping it with me.

I stared at the envelope, it’s true I was in debt all because of my stupid ex-boyfriend who was addicted to gambling and drugs but I did not ask him to marry me because I was a gold digger, I only needed him to prove a point to my ex. But I knew he wasn’t going to believe me even if I told him so.

“Tomorrow, you will start working with me as my assistant, your salary will be twice the amount of the usual pay,” he added.

“But I already have a job,” I frowned.

“Pumpkin, you are getting married to a billionaire, and your salary nor your previous job is fit for the future wife of a billionaire,”

“I can’t resume tomorrow though,” I muttered.

“And why is that?”Micheal furrowed his brows.

“I have to give them a notice before I leave,”

“Everything has been sorted by me, so you don’t have to worry about anything but show up tomorrow,” he said and continued, “A car will be ready to pick you up. Don’t be late, I despise it.”

He turned to leave but I stopped him. “Are you not going to take me back home? I don’t have a ride,”

He turned to face me, “Pick any room of your choice, you now live with me for the next two years,”

“But my personal belongings are in my house,” I explained.

“I doubt you have anything valuable in that house and I would hate for you to bring your trash into my home,” he said coldly, “I will get you everything you could possibly need,”

“But…,”

“No buts, Sofiya. Our conversation is done for the day,”
