5-The Fall Out

Guess what the talk of the Ball was after Tyler, and I left? Can’t guess, well, aren’t you a little slow on the up take? Oh, you did guess. Of course, you did, it was completely obvious. Everyone was taking about how many mates were found.

HAHAHHAHA, NOT!

No, just like every year where I was on one of the few she-wolves unmated, I was the talk of ball.

Some of my favorites that were published in the morning edition of Wolf Street Times were:

“We all knew something had been going on. Alpha Hendricks isn’t handsome enough to have a daughter that beautiful.”

“The eyes should have given it away. She and Alpha Tyler have the same eyes.”

“Alpha Reynolds, of course, is hiding out and not showing his face. I bet Dianna was the one that drove Luna Alice to her early grave.”

Now the problem, do I hide in my room and order room service before getting on the plane, or do I go downstairs to the breakfast?

As I am contemplating all this, someone knocks on my door.

“Come on, let's give them something to really talk about,” Tyler smiles, offering me his arm.

“Hey, about to start some shit? I wish I had a camera,” Cain is smiling from ear to ear, Savannah too.

“Nice neck art,” I pick.

They marked each other. A mark is a bite on the soft flesh, between the neck and collarbone. It’s usually done during sex and lets all the supernaturals know you are taken.

“I am already used to it,” Cain smiles and kisses Savannah’s neck.

“My mother is going to be so disappointed, I told her I was going back to my room last night,” Savannah hid her face in her hands.

“Well, you two were quiet at least, I heard nothing,” I tell them.

“Not sure how, he was howling when I marked him.” Savannah looks surprised.

“Werewolf owned hotel, the rooms are sound-guarded, not completely sound-proof but close,” Tyler tells us.

“You two should do the hickey marks,” Cain jokes.

“Yeah, my lips are staying off my sister,” Tyler still looks green.

“You mean from now on, right?” Cain can’t help but be an ass.

“Thanks for the reminder,” Tyler looks sick again.

We get on the elevator.

“Alpha,” Savannah starts, but Cain cuts her off.

“You don’t have to call him Alpha anymore,” Cain says. “Right, Tyler.”

Tyler smiles and nods, “As a Luna, you are equal to me. Call me Tyler.”

“That is going to take some getting used to,” Savannah smiles. “Tyler, I need to go back to the pack to get my things. We are dropping Evie in New York and would like to fly straight to South Carolina to get everything. Is that okay?”

“Yes Luna, I look forward to hosting my brother and his Luna,” Tyler smiles.

“Yeah, we share a sister that does make us brothers,” Cain smiles. “Welcome to the family. Not the way you wanted, but hey, you are in now.”

We all laugh as we get off the elevator and head to the ball room that has been transformed to a dining room.

When the four of us walk in, everything stops, and everyone stares. Thankfully, Cain is Cain.

“Yes, I know, isn’t Savannah beautiful, but she is mine, so you can all go back to what you were doing,” Cain announces loudly. The four of us find a table and sit.

Chatter picks up and the waiter takes our orders. Then I see her, Crystal making her way over to us.

“Cain heads up,” I say, and he turns around.

“What is her name?” Cain asks.

“Seriously?” I hiss, as she gets closer. “Crystal.”

“Alpha,” Crystal acknowledges Tyler as the highest rank, then Cain, me and she ignores Savannah.

“I believe you may have missed my announcement a few moments ago,” Cain says sternly. “This is my mate, your new Luna.”

Crystal rolls her eyes, “Luna. I came over to see if I could speak to you in private.”

“No, I don’t think so,” Cain says.

“Fine, then I will speak to the Alpha about my issue,” Crystal turns to go.

“I am Alpha now,” Cain states. “What is your problem?”

“Fine, I guess your family hasn’t been embarrassed enough. I rejected my mate because you promised to make me your Luna after this ball. I see you marked her, how could you?” Crystal spits.

Cain busts out laughing and stands up. “I never told you any such thing. You are seriously demented if you thought I would choose a slut like you as the next Luna of Night Claw. Believe me, one slut for a Luna is enough. You wanted to fuck me, you got what you wanted, but I made no promises and don’t pull the pregnancy card, we both know you can’t get pregnant from a blowjob. So, take yourself away. Maybe if he can’t hear me, your mate will allow you to take back your rejection. Otherwise, good luck. Disrespect me, or your Luna again and you will be removed from the pack.”

Crystal starts crying and runs back to the other side of the room.

“Nice,” I shake my head.

“You fucked her?” Savannah asks.

“Her mouth,” Cain acknowledged.

“He wouldn’t give her a kiss goodnight afterwards,” I tell Savannah.

“Tyler back me be up bro, after a she-wolf has had your dick in her mouth, you don’t want to kiss her,” Cain looks to Tyler, who has a mouth full of eggs.

“I mean, I wouldn’t, no,” Tyler looks down at his food.

“You kissed me after I had your dick in my mouth,” Savannah looks to Cain.

“You aren’t a she-wolf, you are my mate, there is a difference,” Cain pulls her to him for a kiss. “So, sis, Dad said you were moving to Seattle. When exactly?”

“After graduation, the first of May. My interview is May 4th at 10am. So, I wanted to leave on the 2nd, get comfortable with the city before the interview, really make a good impression.” I tell him.

“What is the job?” Tyler asks.

“Associate to start. Lots of growth opportunity. I have a property picked out to buy. I need to go see it too.” I smile at them.

“Well, you still have your trust fund. Dad wanted me to tell you, you are his daughter, blood or not. So, the money is yours,” Cain winks at me. “And I stand by what I said. You are a pack member, point blank. If you don’t find a mate, he must be dead.”

“Thanks, little bro," I smile.

Two Weeks Later

“I can’t believe you are moving across the country!” Donna whines.

“It's an interview and a house showing. I haven’t decided to move yet, I have to get the job,” I tell her.

“Then why are all your boxes packed?” Donna makes a face.

“Because if I don’t move to Seattle, I’m going home to Maine,” I look at her like she is crazy.

“So, you are leaving me alone is this crazy city. With nothing but my wits?” She is almost begging.

“And your six-figure new job. Stop complaining,” I throw a pillow at her.

“So, your older brother is hot,” Donna met Cain, Savannah and Tyler at graduation yesterday.

“He is, but he is back in South Carolina already,” I roll my eyes at her.

“Too bad, him, I would have let ride me raw. And spank me,” Donna is in her own little world.

I almost puke looking at her face.

When I land in Seattle, it’s dim and cold. It’s May, but there is no sun. New York in spring is full of life. This is just about the opposite.

Stacey- I don’t know about this place.

Me- Me neither girl.

Stacey- It might grow on us.

Me- I hope so. I really, really do.

My hotel room is warm and cozy. I’m two blocks from my interview and I can walk to it on Tuesday morning. When I close my eyes, I keep thinking about how my life is about to begin.

It’s Tuesday and I am on the way to the interview. The fog is a little denser than it was yesterday, but I make to the building.

“May I help you?” The girl at the front desk is very professional looking. It’s comforting to see.

“Yes, Evie Shaw, I have an interview with Ms. Bradford at 10am.” I smile.

“Take these elevators to the 9th floor. Someone will help you,” she points, and I nod my thanks. When I get out of the elevator, I am met by a woman wearing a suite almost exactly like mine. Only I can tell hers is a knock off of mine.

“Ms. Shaw?” The lady asks.

“Yes,” I smile.

“Ms. Bradford will see you now,” she leads me to an office.

“Ms. Shaw, thank you for being on time,” Ms. Bradford shakes my hand and offers me a seat. “You have no idea how loose people are with time these days. I say 9 to 5, they seem to think it’s arrive between 9 and 9:30,” she is older, maybe 50 or so. Short black hair, healthy for her age.

“My father would never allow me, or anyone, to be late for a meeting with him,” I joke.

“Good, so you were raised properly, that is a plus. I have your CV, looks good. Your reference speaks highly of you. Is that your portfolio?” She asks.

“Yes,” I hand it to her, when the door slams open.

“SUSAN, I CAN'T WORK LIKE THIS!” A huge man storms in and slams his fist on Ms. Bradford’s desk. “The new assistant was fine the first couple of days, but now.”

He stops and turns to face me.

Stacey- IT'S HIM, THAT IS OUR MATE. THAT’S HIM!!!!!!
