April 17th, 1982-New York City Evie’s POV “Hey girl, last party of grad school, you can’t miss it,” Donna says, laying on her bed. “Well, you don’t know my Dad. I have to go home. There is a party there, too. Not as fun as this one, but important, none the less,” I smile at her, as I pack a weekend bag. “You are 25 years old! How is it possible your dad can demand you attend some party?” Donna is a human and would never understand. Yes, I am 25. Yes, I have a job, apartment, life away from my father, but I am not human! If I were human, I could tell my father to kiss my ass. But I wasn’t born to such luxury. I was born a werewolf. And not just any werewolf, I was born Evelyn Shaw, Princess of the Night Claw pack. First born of Hendricks and Dianna Shaw, Alpha and Luna of Night Claw. The pride of the pack. My brother, Cain, is the next Alpha, because there is no way I’m not a Luna of some pack. He is 23. More than old enough to take over, but like me, he doesn’t have a mate. Wh
Evie’s POVStacey- Okay, we made it back.Me- Where are we shifting back?Stacey- Beside the clothes bin in back of the Packhouse. I have alerted the Alpha we are here.Me- Thanks, Stacey. She gives me control and I grab clothes.“Thank the goddess your wolf is obedient,” my mother calls, wrapping me in a cold hug. If you thought all hugs were warm fuzzy and full of love, you should hug my mom. I thought once that she was a succubus, because one of her hugs can suck the happiness from your soul. But I was told no, she is a werewolf.“Hey, Mom,” I say, pulling away as fast as I can.“My long-lost daughter has graced us with her presence. I feel like a celebration is in order,” my father does hug me with love. He can’t say he loves me, but at least I feel it in his hugs. “Stacey beat the limo. She is too powerful to be couped up in New York.”“I agree, Dad, that is why I have a new plan for my life after grad school,” I tell him.“Oh, well, this sounds like a conversation to have over d
Evie’s POVStacey- Oh, I smell the river, today.Me- Me too. Check out Cain, he might throw up.Stacey- I wish we had a video camera; he might actually throw up.Me- Can you talk to Zeke?Stacey- Of course, he is my brother.Me- Ask him what Cain is thinking.Stacey- He is thinking how much he hates London.“Okay, bro?” I ask, Cain out loud.“Zeke told me you asked about me,” Cain narrows his eyes at me.“I think the two of you could use some time apart,” Mom pulls me to car, away from Dad and Cain.Cain- Ever get the feeling Mom is, like, hiding something?Me- YES.Cain- I wonder what?Me- I’m not asking.Cain- Me neither,Stacey- I’ll ask Sara.Me- No, let it go. No reason to ruin an already boring family trip.Stacey- OkayCain- Zeke wants to ask Sara.Me- Stacey too, I told her no. There is a good chance Sara tells mom.Cain- Good point.“Stop minklinking,” Mom tells me. “What is going on between you and Cain?”I laugh, “Mom, we are brother and sister. We are close, but not inappr
“At least we can all be thankful the Lycans declined our invitation again.” Everyone laughs at Elder Stevens opening remarks.Cain was on the male side of the room, the other side of the curtain from me. I am standing with a bunch of little twits. Most of whom will find a mate when the curtain drops.“What if I’m mated to Cain Shaw?” I hear a girl say behind me. I turn slightly to look at her. Cain couldn’t do much better in the looks department. I’ve never been one to like the look of a she-wolf, but even I have to say, whoa, she’s hot.“Don’t worry, you are an Omega, he will reject you.” A stuck-up bitch replies.“Only if he wants me to break my foot off in his ass,” I turn to face them. “Sweetie, if you are mated to my brother, then you are special indeed and he will love you to the ends of the earth and back again. My brother looks all mean and scary and to an enemy he is. But to his mate, he will be everything she needs. Don’t worry. When that sheet drops, just follow your wolf.”
Guess what the talk of the Ball was after Tyler, and I left? Can’t guess, well, aren’t you a little slow on the up take? Oh, you did guess. Of course, you did, it was completely obvious. Everyone was taking about how many mates were found. HAHAHHAHA, NOT!No, just like every year where I was on one of the few she-wolves unmated, I was the talk of ball. Some of my favorites that were published in the morning edition of Wolf Street Times were: “We all knew something had been going on. Alpha Hendricks isn’t handsome enough to have a daughter that beautiful.”“The eyes should have given it away. She and Alpha Tyler have the same eyes.”“Alpha Reynolds, of course, is hiding out and not showing his face. I bet Dianna was the one that drove Luna Alice to her early grave.”Now the problem, do I hide in my room and order room service before getting on the plane, or do I go downstairs to the breakfast? As I am contemplating all this, someone knocks on my door.“Come on, let's give the
Stacey is going crazy in my head, but being a good wolf in the presence of a human, she isn’t taking over. His Lycan on the other hand, was not taking no for an answer.“Mine,” he snarls.“Mr. Kingston!” Ms. Bradford calls him.“Evelyn Shaw,” I hold my hand out.“Bruce,” his Lycan answers, but doesn’t let my hand.“Mr. Kingston!” Ms. Bradford calls him again.Me- Stacey, can you talk to Bruce?Stacey- Yeah! Of course.Me- Good, remind him we are in the presence of a human, and he needs to back off.Stacey- He wants us to know they won’t reject us.Me- Tell him we won’t reject him either. But I need to meet my mate.Mr. Kingston is finally back in control.“Adam Kingston,” he takes my hand.Tingles! Sparks!“Good to meet you, Mr. Kingston,” I smile.“Please, call me Adam,” he is almost begging.“Mr. Kingston, this is a candidate for the associate position,” Ms. Bradford looks shocked and appalled.“She won’t be working here,” Adam tells her, but doesn’t stop looking at me.I grimace, t
I get back with the food order and don’t knock, but walk into the office. Adam is seated at the conference table, while Vivian and the man whose name I still don’t know make their presentation. I set up Adam’s plate and drink in front of him and make similar places for the other two.“Thank you, baby,” Adam says, making everyone stop and stare at him.“That was inappropriate, and I don’t appreciate it,” I tell him in the most professional way possible. “My name is Evie, or Miss Shaw.”Vivian looks impressed and watches Adam, as he and I stare at each other.Me- Tell him to keep it professional, or I'll find a new firm.Stacey- He apologizes and asks if you can discuss it later.Me- He needs to apologize now, in front of them.“I apologize, that was unprofessional and rude,” Adam says, looking me in the eye.“Thank you for your apology. I will be at my desk,” I take the box that I carried everything in and left.Werewolves and Lycans have exceptional hearing.“I’m going to ask you tw
It’s 4:30pm and I’m shutting down my workstation. I have the book open if anyone wants to schedule something, but I’m mentally drained. My body wants to be pressed against Adam and not let him go.Stacey- Adam wants to know if the schedule is clear and can he pack up for the night.Me- Yeah, I’m ready when he is.Three minutes later Adam comes out.“Miss Shaw, thank you for today. I’d be pleased to give you a ride,” Adam says, his eyes twinkling.“Thank you, Mr. Kingston, my husband is waiting for me, I can walk.” I smile.Me- Tell him what hotel and that I’ll be in the lobby in one hour.Stacey- Done. I can’t wait to be with my mate.Me- Me either.Adam leaves and I clean up a little more. At 5pm, I leave and walk back to my hotel. I pack up and go to the lobby. Adam is already there. He takes my bags without a word, and we go through the back of the lobby to the garage.“I expected you would have a driver,” I tell him, as he puts my things in the boot of a sports car.“I don’t see th
