Conclusions

“Lysa?” asked one of the Omegas he had seen, it was not the same one from the room who had turned golden. It was another one of them, his name was Kalte, if he remembered correctly. In his human form he was tall and slender, with a prominent nose and thin cheeks.

Although I did not feel like talking to anyone, I tried to smile. I did not want to make enemies; after all, it was crazy to think I was a protégé. I had to take care of myself, especially after my brother's attack. Something was not right, that wolf had changed shape, and even though I did not know if he was dangerous, my instincts told me that things were not good or normal.

“I can see that you are a little scared. I know what happened to your brother.” He said and invited me to sit on the chair in that hallway. It was a tea set for the living room.

Kalte waved a passerby over and asked him to bring tea for both of us. It felt good to have something warm to drink after the busy day I had had. It seemed like the emotions would never stop.

“Thank you, I said.” Said I, when someone was nice to me, I tried to be polite.

“How did you feel when your former alpha tried to kill you? I am sorry, that's a very indiscreet question, but understand, I understand you.” He said his tone was gentle, not aggressive.

“I felt... A terrible helplessness, the feeling of wanting everything to be different.” I said with tears in my eyes, I had to give vent to my feelings, even if he was a complete stranger to me, under Omegas we understood each other. “I wanted to turn back time to obey him and not cause problems.”

“That is what distinguishes us as Omegas, what many would call cowardice is actually loyalty.” Said he with a sincere smile. “As Omegas, we instinctively always obey the Alpha, the Beta, all those who are stronger than us. When I first came here, I wanted to return to apologize to my pack, many times. Fortunately, Seth stopped me.”

“That's a relief, death awaits a runaway omega who conspires with hunters.” Said I ruefully.

“I need you to accompany me to a place.” He began to say as he stood up and reached his arm out for me to follow him. “Seth said, you are ready to see something.”

I followed him without argument, because the feeling of belonging to the other Omegas made me feel accompanied. I could not explain it, but it was something that was in my blood. Submission to an alpha was something only an omega wolf could understand.

We were in a hurry to visit the mansion, as Kalte walked at a volatile pace. It was a basement, but not as cold and damp as the others I had seen, but luxurious and neat. There was a pile of stacked boxes there. Cold beckoned me to open them and examine what was inside.

“Books?” I asked, examining the contents of the pages.

They were heavy, sturdy books, with old pages.

“Yes, they all say something similar. It's good that you read them, you have time for it. Here you will discover a raw truth. Seth said to wait here with you in case you were too sad.”

“So, are you here to take care of me? I am not a ticking time bomb.” I said annoyed.

“Yes, you are, we all were when we arrived here.”

Kalte sat down cross-legged on one of the dusty chairs there. I did the same, with the book in my hand that caught my attention the most. As hard as I tried to understand what was in it, I could not understand anything. It was like it was a new world to me, and I was frustrated.

“If all books are this confusing, I will not read any more.” I said and rolled my eyes.

“That's your restlessness.” he said and laughed. He picked up one of the books. “I'll read it to you so you'll understand, because apparently you always want to get to the end quickly and that's why you get lost.”

Look, here it tells the reason for the complicity between the Alpha and the Beta. It says that the strongest will wear the mantle of the Alpha, the one who will hunt without mercy and subjugate his whole flock. His word will always be the most famous and his power will always be the greatest.

“Everyone knows this, it is a truism.” I answered him, annoyed that he said I was a fearful person.

“You have not read what it says.” He spoke.

“Yes, I did.” I corrected him if I had read it correctly. “It says that the omega will always be a remnant, a pawn to fill up the herd and cause a mob. But not always will such a weak person be born because fate was not quite so generous to them. I told you, I read it and I do not understand anything.”

“You said it exactly, not always someone is born so weak.” He said and repeated the sentence. “Now look for the answer to this doubt.”

Then a light came on in my head, something that made sense. I began to flip through all the books at my leisure, and the hours flew by. It felt good to be there, with all the knowledge, it didn't make me feel like I was in a strange place.

One of the books that caught my attention the most was red with gray. On the cover it said "The Birth of a Second Omega." The title caught my attention.

As I read the worn and yellowed pages, I understood what Kalte was trying to show me. I also understood why Seth was fighting such an intense battle against the Alphas. There, on page twenty, was a detailed explanation of how to experiment on a wolf cub, draining his powers and leaving him a weak and sickly Omega.

I got goosebumps reading how the pack decided which of the offspring would be the weakest omega so that the power would pass to the alpha, allowing them to increase the wolves' powers. It was a sacrifice, it said so very clearly.

Tears rolled down my cheek.
