What was she doing? I told her to keep her head down, not challenge Kroll. Did she have a death wish?

Alaric’s fingers were tightly wrapped around my wrist as he hauled me out of the cabin. Twigs snapped underneath our feet as we tore through the trees, ignoring the branches and undergrowth that grabbed at our clothing.

“What about, Rose?” I wheezed out. Alaric was dragging me behind him. I couldn’t keep up with his pace; I was slowing him down. My body wasn’t built like a werewolf. I had a fragile human body. I was never one to care about fitness. I regretted that now.

“We can’t do anything for her right now.” Alaric quietly mumbled under his breath.

“What do you mean?” I stopped attempting to keep up with his blistering pace. “We just can’t leave her.”
