“Here, sweetheart!” Emerald placed a bowl of boiled vegetables on the baby chair. Sophia at once started digging in.
“Thank you, mommy!” She tried to speak with her full mouth. Kissing her plump cheek, Emerald took the seat before Selina.
“I am so excited to experience this party mode! Somebody just kill me and send me to heaven.”
Selina squealed with childlike innocence making Emerald shake her head in amusement. They both were sitting in the kitchen, their coffee cups placed on the counter.
“Gosh, Emerald. I have this wild hunch that I might meet my Mr. Right at this party.”
Selina was her friend and the governess for Levisay's kids. Staying with Levisays had been the best decision of her life and she could not thank Patricia enough.
Levisays had a special liking for their employees who wanted to pursue their studies. Whether they were office workers or house helpers.
Emerald had become very close to Hunter and Abigail Levisay. They were almost like close friends to her and she had worked her butt off to earn that respect.
She resigned from her governess job just a month back and applied for property sales jobs in the hopes of some extra commission. Once her class fellow had told her how there was a boom in Estate and property business.
Abigail often used to tell her that she needed to loosen up a little.
Like other employees, they never saw her going out or having fun.
“Gotcha!” somebody shouted near her ear making her eyes roll.
“You need to grow up, Avery.” Emerald took a sip of her black coffee shaking her head. Avery was hired as a governess to replace Emerald.
“I was here to remind Selena that her working hours are about to start. Mrs. Anderson is ready to stay with the kids this evening so that we can attend tonight’s party.”
And then she turned her head towards Emerald, “And you, beautiful! You ARE attending it this evening. No excuses this time. Ok?”
“Yes, please Em.” Selina pleaded. “We know you don’t like attending these parties. But please don’t miss this one. Please.” She joined her palms as if she was begging.
“She is right, Em. No excuses for tomorrow night. Mrs. Anderson will take care of Sophia along with Levisay’s kids.” Avery ruffled Sophia’s long locks before taking a chair.
Levisays used to host an annual ball every year, which Emerald never attended.
And there was only one reason for not attending them.
Rafael Wyatt!
Who used to be a film star but for four years he was in the movie industry as a producer and an upcoming business tycoon in Estate and property.
For some odd reason, he seldom visited Levisay’s home whenever he was in San Francisco but preferred to stay in Sapphire Galaxy Hotel owned by them.
He did make sure to attend the ball every year on Abigail’s insistence.
Emerald had started avoiding parties and hangouts. But this particular annual party?
Well! No way!
Let’s put it this way.
She did not want to see him nor did she want to show her face to him.
If Rafael Wyatt would be there then it’s a sure shot of “no-go territory” for her.
She could not bear the sight of him.
She could not let him see her.
No. Those fifteen days in Turkey were enough for making a fool of herself.
That douchebag thought of her as a naive creature and took advantage of her.
But she was young at that time.
Not anymore.
No!
Tonight would be different. There was no chance for Rafael to be there. Abigail herself said that he won’t be able to make it this year.
So she guessed she could easily attend it this time. Plus Abigail was a sweetheart. Every time she used to respect Emerald’s decision of not attending it.
However, this time she had warned her that no excuse will work for her.
“Em! Back to the world. What are you thinking?” Selina snapped her fingers in front of her eyes.
“Sad! This year Rafael Wyatt won’t be attending it.” Avery curved down her lips and then clutched Emerald’s hand, “You know? Last year he smiled at me. Can you believe it? Rafael Wyatt! Smiling at …”
“Look at you! You have again started telling us Ah-mazing stories of Rafael Wyatt!” Selina’s remark made Emerald laugh.
She was about to tease Avery when a hand covered her eyes and she heard Abigail Levisay’s mischievous giggles.
“Emerald! I have got a surprise for you!” Emerald could feel the excitement in her voice. Not understanding a thing she removed her hand and tilted her head a little to give a questioning look to Abigail when she found someone else standing beside her.
She gasped in shock and stood from her seat. The surprise was evident on her face.
“Oh my God! Oh my God! It’s you! Patricia!” screaming at the top of her lungs she lunged at Patricia who was already laughing like crazy.
“What are you doing here?” After giving her a final tight hug Patricia stepped back and nodded at Avery and Selina politely.
“Abigail invited me. She wants me to meet someone special this evening at the party.” Patricia rolled her eyes playfully making her laugh again.
“That’s good, Cia. I am glad, you made it.” Emerald was happy to find her friend there.
“How about you? Isn’t your fiancé joining you here?” Patricia sat down along with Abigail while Avery and Selina left the kitchen for their duty hours whispering their gracious goodbyes.
“Shut up!” Emerald scoffed, “Daniel is NOT my fiancé!” she offered both of them the black coffee and both of them declined and opted for champagne.
“He deserves someone better!” She silently thought to herself.
“That man is crazy about you.” Abigail Levisay remarked dreamily, “He carries this engagement ring on his sleeve.”
Now Abigail had again started with that romantic shit.
Not all men could be like Hunter Levisay. Abigail was lucky to find him.
So was Hunter. They made a stunning couple.
Even Patricia was sitting there batting her eyes dreamily.
Emerald had to shift their attention away from herself...
“So who is this important guy you are setting her up with?” Emerald asked Abigail casually.
“Oh, you will come to know when you will attend tonight’s dinner.” Abigail loved giving surprises, “Even Patricia doesn’t know about this guy. It’s a surprise!”
Emerald lifted her cup of black coffee as a toast of celebration. Patricia and Abigail followed her by lifting their champagne glasses without knowing that this evening, there was expected to be a big change in Emerald’s life.
And that was only the beginning…

“Mommy! You look pretty.” four years old Sophia who had been observing her with her chin rested on her palm, told her softly.“Aww. You think so?” She asked the little munchkin with love.“How could someone not accept such a pretty thing!” She thought about her parents while her eyes were on Sophia’s beautiful little face. She could never get that horrible night out of her mind when her parents abandoned her. If Patricia and Cassandra were not there, she didn’t know where she would end up. She made it out alive along with Sophia. She was her little warrior.Emerald sat beside her and made her sit on her lap to hug her tightly.“What are you doing, mommy?”“Mommy needs a hug little one.”She didn’t know if the hug was for the child or if she was the one who needed it most. She was ready for the party. Though she was not very fond of makeup. But tonight she did it just to please her friends. She was wearing a Ruby red bodycon dress that reached her knees. The dress with its full sleev
“No way. I am not attending this brunch today.” Patricia said stubbornly.“Oh come on, Cia.” Abigail sat beside her, “Today it would be different. He is leaving this evening.” Abigail was trying to convince her to attend the brunch arranged in the garden but Patricia was not ready to budge.“Don’t set me up with him. On screen, he used to be so romantic with those female leads. Last night, he did not even look at me. And that model!” Patricia scoffed in irritation, “She was literally grinding herself on his lap. No way. I am NOT going.”Abigail squeezed her eyes a little and then turned to Emerald, “Please ask her to do it. He is not that bad.”“Oh. He is worse, Abi.” Thinking to herself sarcastically, Emerald moved away the cracker bowl from the table top and sat in front of Patricia.“Cia! Attend it because of you. Because of us. If you don’t want to talk to him. Then don’t!” Patricia pouted and shook her head in embarrassment.“Come on, Cia. We are your friends. Just go and enjoy y
Emerald forgot who this man was. She forgot where was she standing? She forgot about herself. The only thing that mattered right now was… That she was in his arms, inhaling the same scent she faintly remembered four years ago. Just then very lightly, someone placed a hand on Rafael’s shoulders. “Rafael!” There was concern in Hunter’s voice. Frowning to herself Emerald jumped a little and straightened. She pushed his hands feebly which caused several creases to appear on his forehead. “Julia?” Rafael held her chin gently. There was confusion evident in his eyes. “Rafael!” They again heard Hunter, “She is not Julia.” What? Rafael did not let go of her waist despite her feeble attempts. “She is not Julia. She is Emerald.” Hunter repeated. “Emerald?” Rafael’s head again turned to her. He wanted confirmation. This time she pushed his hands a little forcefully and took a step back. Abigail was also standing there with them. “Yes, Rafael. She is Emerald. Not Julia. Her name is Em
After such a long time Emerald got a good night's sleep. She woke up when her phone started ringing. Her heart fell in the pit of her stomach when she did not find Sophie beside her. While talking on phone, she got up hurriedly and jogged down towards the kitchen. That was the only place the kid could be found. And man! She was right. When she was done with the call, she disconnected it and opened the kitchen door. She found Sophie talking to a guy who was leaning towards her baby chair. While Selina was preparing pancakes for the kid’s breakfast. Entering the kitchen, Emerald frowned a little, "Sophie. You never fail to give me a heart attack." The moment she said that the guy straightened. "Daniel!" She yelped with joy and walked to him for a hug, "When did you land here?" He returned the hug and lifted Sophie in his arms, "I came straight from the airport. I was missing you two so much." He placed the child back in the baby chair after kissing her cheek. From the corner of her
The call was from his production house."Rafael. You need to decide the name of the movie by now." His director now sounded frustrated at the other end, "You haven't even decided the ending.""I will let you know. Ok? I told you to get done with the initial shoots." Rafael snapped. Deep down he knew the director was right. The man was competitive and wanted to work in a professional way for Rafael and his production company.Ethan was drinking coffee and was talking animatedly to Rafael Wyatt as soon as he disconnected the call.Rafael was only half listening. Every cell in his body was waiting for Mathew to return and tell him the good news."By the way, may I know who this girl is?" Ethan asked him while pushing a heart-shaped cookie into his mouth."No one special, Eth." Rafael replied nonchalantly and started reading something on his laptop screen. He was getting impatient with each passing minute. Why Mathew is taking so long to get the documents signed?"These are awesome. I wan
Daniel made her sit in the waiting room and went inside to talk to Mr. Ramsey. Yesterday for some reason she could not meet him so she was called this morning. Daniel was back within a few minutes. "Is she the one?" She stood up when a chubby and bald man came out of his office with a friendly smile, "Hello, Emerald. Welcome on board. Daniel talks about you all the time." He was trying to be friendly with eyes lingering on her chest. He extended his hand for a handshake. When she reached out, he held her hand and started walking towards his office, not bothering to leave it. A little surprised, Emerald's eyes went wide and she turned quickly to see Daniel. Poor Daniel himself seemed too confused. The worst thing was when he tried to follow them inside the office, Mr. Ramsey told him in a no-nonsense tone. "Wait outside, Daniel." Instead of asking professional questions, Mr. Ramsey discussed the weather and climatic changes with her. Emerald didn't know that he was so approacha
(FLASHBACK Four years ago) She was at a private party invited by a friend of a friend, all alone in Turkey when someone spoke near her ear in a heavy voice, “It’s rare that a beauty like you is all alone in this beautiful country.” She was getting bored as hell. Upon turning, she found a boy who must be twenty or twenty two with the iciest blue eyes she had ever seen. His long beard and mustache might be a repellent for many. But she was wildly attracted to this icy blue eyed stranger. “And what a handsome man like you is doing here all alone? Or maybe I am blind I can’t see any date with you.” She jested taking a sip of her wine. After getting over the initial awkwardness they were talking like two old friends. Before leaving the party they decided to meet at a coffee shop the next day. “How can someone drink black coffee? Don’t you find it bitter?” She pouted innocently sitting before him. “Black coffee is sweeter than this life, Guzel.” He placed the cup on the table. True to
