There was nothing

I watched as he picked up the other end of the fork and moved it across the table towards me.

He paused, seemingly waiting for me to take a bite out of the piece of meat that he had placed on top of my plate. Reluctantly, I took the fork and poked cautiously at it before tentatively lifting it to my mouth.

Although it wasn't very appetizing, I ate the portion that Ezra offered anyway. For now, I would have to endure the discomfort that came with having food in my mouth. It wasn't like I hadn't had to eat anything recently.

Once I finished the rest of my breakfast, Ezra placed the fork in the sink before reaching for his wallet, which was resting next to it on the table.

He dug around in his pocket for several seconds before producing two tens and tossing them on the table. Without another word, he grabbed my arm and dragged me to the door, practically dragging me across the hallway.
