"Trey, why are you asking this kind of question?"

He shrugged his shoulders. "I just thought about it, totally out of the blue." He looked away. "If you don't like it, I'm sorry. And if you don't want to answer, it's alright. I would understand—"

"It's you, Trey." I cut him off. I knew he was dismissing it because he thought I couldn't answer directly, but actually, I could because I knew very well what I wanted.

I wouldn't want him to think that it was necessary to dismiss it without getting answered, and then later on, we are going to be feeling awkward towards each other, most especially from his side because it was him that asked such question.
