Dirty Promises

He dropped in on his side and closed the door. Twisting to rest against the driver’s side door to stare at me, waitingly. “What’s up, Cheers?”

“Thank you for getting us home.” I blurted before I could overthink it.

I should say thank you. It really was a kind gesture.

“You’re welcome. But you could’ve said that to me tomorrow.” He said slowly.

“I don’t want to talk to you in public.”

“Oh...” He gave a burned whistle. “But you’ll talk to me alone and drunk in my dark car?”

I hesitated, considering that. That does sound bad.

“Well, it’s different if people see us.” I explained.

Tommy won’t take it well.

“Because Tommy might find out you’re not the pining ex-girlfriend he may secretly be hoping you are?”
