Those words were daunting.

‘Give him a chance’. Mom said.

To what? Help me?

Is that what Kane wanted? I swallowed.

“You’re so conflicted.” Mom stroked my cheek. “I can see the fear on you. But I’d chance that, that boy pined for you just as much as you did him when he went away.”

“He asked me to write him.”

“But you didn’t.” She said sadly. “You never had time for things like that.”

“I never made time for things like that.” I corrected. “I got back together with Tommy.”

Her nose crinkled at that name. “Never liked that one.”

“But I did.”

She snorted. “You liked that he was the football guy.”

I nodded. “You’re probably right.”

“Sounds like military brat didn’t fit the mold you had at the time.”

“I suppose not.”

“Does he now?”

I loved her. But man, somedays I hated when she cut right down to the heart of things. “I don’t think I have a mold anymore. But if I did he’d probably surpass it. He’s too perfect.”
