Upper hand or not

Daphne was hoping to say her greetings lovingly with a smile but when they gave her a different look, her smile slipped and she furrowed her left brow in surprise.

In reply to Lady Rose’s question, Old lady William pats Daphne’s back as she struts forward with her.

“That doesn’t sound like a greeting Rose,” The old lady said.

“Well as this should be your job to take new wives of the family on tour and help her with things she needs to know but since you’re busy like you claimed, I’m here to do that” The old lady explained.

“I’m sorry mother,” she said then switched to a pretentious smile to address Daphne “I’m so sorry my dear, I’ve been busy working on Winter fashion ideas,” she said with strained prudence.
